“Cute place; great view!”

Stayed here for 2 nights, along with 5 friends. The house is cute (a little small, but cozy), and situated on a big hill, which makes for a spectacular view. The best part is the huge deck that has a big table, hammocks, plenty of room to hang out and enjoy the view of this beautiful island. The owner was very friendly and helpful. All in all, a great value!

“Amazing little house on the hill!”
Reviewed December 23, 2013 for a stay in December 2013

Four of us spent 2 nights in Casita Amarilla... These were the best days and nights of our vacation! This little rustic house it very, very nice. We enjoyed a constant nice breeze which meant we did not need the air conditioner in the rooms. We slept well, lulled by the rustling of the trees around us. Gabriel is great to work with and was very attentive to our needs, even meeting us in old San Juan a few days prior to our stay to give us keys and phone numbers for tours. We hope to be able to come back and stay longer!

“Gabriel and the Amarilla Casita made our week-long trip to Vieques unforgettable!”
Reviewed April 15, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

We stayed at the Amarilla Casita for the second week in April and it was absolutely wonderful. It is located not far from Isabella II, about a half mile, which made getting into the town fairly easy (with or without a vehicle).

For the first three days of our trip we did have a rental car and that was really nice for getting to some of the "off-the-beaten-path" beaches and sites (La Chiva, the military bunkers, Green Beach). However, the second half of the trip we did not have a car and we fared just fine as well. We used the reliable taxi service quite a bit (5 dollars a person per ride) and rented a moped one day. Both made it very easy to enjoy the main beaches and Esperanza/Isabella II.

So, location was great.

Additionally, the Amarilla Casita has wonderful hammocks for relaxing that have a great view of the water. One of the best parts about the Amarilla Casita was the kitchen! Gabriel had everything one could possibly need to cook a great meal. Blender (piña coladas!), tons of pots and pans, coffee maker and filters, microwave, working oven and stove. It was excellent.

The Amarilla Casita also has a huge yard where we got to see lots of wildlife - lizards, geckos, one iguana, lots of chicken/turkey things, and crabs. It was amazing.

Finally, Gabriel made our stay extremely comfortable and was very accommodating. He recommended some great restaurants/beaches that we would not have found without him. He also recommended a great tour company for paddleboard - Vieques Paddleboarding. He was friendly and willing to answer any and all questions that we had and made our stay in Vieques relaxing to the max. He met us on day one and gave us a tour of the property to make sure that we felt comfortable.

I do want to mention there is one luxury resort on the island and if you are considering staying at the W hotel, then the Amarilla Casita is probably not going to be your style. It is more rustic than a 5 star hotel. Which is what we loved about it - and it came with 5 star service :)

We even screwed up our departure date and Gabriel helped us out greatly!!

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Vieques and are so grateful to Gabriel for all of his hard work!

One note - while we were there, the internet company was giving Gabriel some trouble. It did not work for us during the whole week. For us - this didn't matter at all. If you absolutely need the internet, check with Gabriel to see what the status of that is.

“Great, quiet little place - relatively secluded with a good view”
Reviewed March 5, 2012 for a stay in February 2012

We loved the place. This is the fourth place we've rented on Vieques and definitely one of our favorites. It's relatively quiet (pretty low on the rooster / dog noise scale). It's on a good-sized chunk of land so it's really private with incredible views of the stars. Great deck for hanging out on. Good view from the porch of the Atlantic and the big island in the distance.
The house had everything we needed for the beach: beach towels, beach chair, cooler, lots of ice cube trays, etc. Kitchen is well appointed though small. Auto-drip and stovetop coffee makers. Full list of utensils, pots, pans, dishes, etc.
House is rustic but very comfortable. Main bed is a platform bed and comfortable. Two futons in the living room weren't fancy but were plenty comfy to watch a movie on. We didn't need the air conditioner in the bedroom but it worked and was a newish model. We did run the fan on it at night some to drown out the dog / rooster noise (again, one of the quieter places we've stayed. Dogs / roosters are normal noises for Vieques).
House was very clean. Bathroom was small but very functional. The shower has an instant heater mounted on the shower head that never got real hot but comfortable enough for showers.
Our one complaint about the property: if it rains there's thick clumpy mud at the gate to the property. Makes it a little tough and messy to unlock / lock the gate when you're coming and going.
Great location between Isabelle and Esperanza. Pretty close to the entrance to the Fish and Wildlife beaches. If you want to be able to walk to nightlife, this is not the place for you. If you want peace and quiet and privacy, this is an excellent choice.
Great host.
