“Nice beach!”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

There a lot of remote beaches on Vieques, just depends how much effort you want to put into going there. I personally thought Caracas (Red) beach was better, as it was a more traditional beach. But Blue Beach has its own positives -- its very remote for one. There's only about 15 parking spots, scattered down the beach, so you won't bump into many people. Since were there one afternoon in September (off season) we had this entire stretch of beach to ourselves. The beach itself, isn't very wide, but it doesn't need to be since there's no one there. The water was extremely calm and as chrystal blue as it gets. It was almost like swimming in a bathtub it was so warm, clear and calm. Keep in mind that this is a 'wild' beach, so there's a lot of branches and stuff on the shoreline, and a lot of seaweed in the water, so if that bothers you, you may want to wear some aqua shoes.

I recommend doing a 1/2 day at both Red and Blue beaches. They're right down the road from one another, and a good way to see the contrast between what Vieques has to offer.

Snorkeling wasn't all that great here, but its possible we were in the wrong spot. There's a big island off the coast, that supposedly you can swim to and offers good snorkeling. But we weren't that adventurous.

The water is the most beautiful one I have ever seen, real turquoise. And we went there at low season, we had the beach all to ourselves, it feels unbelievably amazing. We were going to beach hop, but we actually spent too much time there and skip all the other beaches on the island.
We snorkeled a little bit, we saw some fish, not a lot, but we were told we could go further to do more snorkeling.

One of the most beautiful beaches the world over, even compared to stretches of isolated sand in Costa Rica and the tropical wonders of Thailand.

Our favorite beach at Vieques - very few tourists! It was just gorgeous and the water was clearest we saw the entire week! Also on your way is Sol Food, it's very good elevated street food run by American expats!

Formerly used by the armed forces for amphibious landings and other training, this long streach of white sand beach offers snorkeling, beach combing and just relaxing. It has a few beach kiosks so come early if you want one.
