There a lot of remote beaches on Vieques, just depends how much effort you want to put into going there. I personally thought Caracas (Red) beach was better, as it was a more traditional beach. But Blue Beach has its own positives -- its very remote for one. There's only about 15 parking spots, scattered down the beach, so you won't bump into many people. Since were there one afternoon in September (off season) we had this entire stretch of beach to ourselves. The beach itself, isn't very wide, but it doesn't need to be since there's no one there. The water was extremely calm and as chrystal blue as it gets. It was almost like swimming in a bathtub it was so warm, clear and calm. Keep in mind that this is a 'wild' beach, so there's a lot of branches and stuff on the shoreline, and a lot of seaweed in the water, so if that bothers you, you may want to wear some aqua shoes.
I recommend doing a 1/2 day at both Red and Blue beaches. They're right down the road from one another, and a good way to see the contrast between what Vieques has to offer.
Snorkeling wasn't all that great here, but its possible we were in the wrong spot. There's a big island off the coast, that supposedly you can swim to and offers good snorkeling. But we weren't that adventurous.
