“Hands down favorite restaurant in Vieques.”
Reviewed September 18, 2011

As a tourist-turned-local now living in Vieques, this is my hands down favorite place to eat on the island. Although it can be daunting to find if you're not familiar with the island, the trip is well worth it. The semi-secluded location provides a better backdrop for the food and conversation vice the madness of the more populated areas.

Food is always excellent, the wine list is generously diversified, and the staff is attentive without being smothering. Can't really ask for more.

“Stunning”
Reviewed September 13, 2011

We actually found this place by chance and it ended up being some of the best food we had during our time in Puerto Rico! Everything was excellent, from the lobster to the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. They have their own fruit infused vodkas and their wine is superb. The service was relaxed but attentive and the deck offered amazing views. Highly recommend!

“Feasting like Queen of Sheba”
Reviewed September 11, 2011

We sat at the table built on top of a platform, sitting like indians with a ton of pillows. There is only one table like this. The food was excellent as we tried various dishes. Very large portions and the food was very tasty we kept eating that eventually we had to lay down on the pillows we were so full. No seem to mind, it was a very relaxed atmosphere. A must try.

“Too Much Great Food!”
Reviewed August 25, 2011

This was the hot new restaurant on our previous (5th) trip to Vieques. And well it should be! (We have arranged to visit Vieques again on 11/29/11 - 12/12/11, and I hope my husband agrees to return to Next Course vs. doing all of our cooking "at home.") Almost everyone we spoke with suggested eating there -- which was already our intention. (We're very friendly, so we spoke at some length with lots of people; eg, our Acacia car rental person, the people at the farmers' market, store proprietors/workers, folks on the beach -- including some from The W, et cetera. A lot of folks staying at The W were "resorting" to Next Course [pun intended], saying their food was far superior to that at The W. We rarely dine out when in Vieques because we love to cook and eat at "our" rental casa. (That's for another review someday...)

This was a fabulous experience in all ways. Next Course is very casual -- like the rest of the island -- so no need to "dress up". Originally, we were seated on the veranda, but found it too windy, so we wound up at a lovely table inside.

Next Course's menu is divided into 1st course, 2nd course and 3rd course, with a fine alcohol selection. When we had each ordered 2 courses and she began to walk away, we asked the server to hang on since we wanted to order a 3rd course. The darling young lady warned us it would be too much food and attempted to talk us into just 2 courses, but we were determined. She was entirely correct! We took home serious doggie bags; eg, lobster tail and some other yummy things. 2 courses would have been plenty -- but everything on the menu looked so appealing; thus, "our eyes were bigger than our bellies," as my grandfather used to say. I don't remember exactly what we ordered, but I know I ordered plenty of fish and seafood, while my husband ordered some kind of chicken. (My husband is generally not a fish-eater, so I usually order it when we dine out.) Everything we tasted was totally delicious!

It "felt" like Next Course was patronized by ex-pats and tourists, including some "regulars." The ambiance was very comfortable. Prices were reasonable. Food was fabulous! Can't wait to go again -- and get only 2 courses each!
