Had a wonderful stay at La Finca with a Sierra Club snorkeling trip. The grounds are lovely and the beautiful view drew us to the porch and the breeze kept us there -cool and happy. The open kitchen makes for an informal, friendly atmosphere and I loved the outdoor showers late at night, looking up at the stars, so quiet with everyone was asleep. (Bring flip flops so you can walk to the shower - it's a bit rough on bare feet.) The solar powered showers stayed warm even with our large group using them en masse. I'll be back!

Will you find anything like La Finca. I have been there three times over the past 20+ years...and it remains, as a non-religious person, as close to a sacred place as I have in my life. I find myself, when there, always speaking in a quiet, respectful voice...because it is a shared place, one of amazing peace and joy. If you're looking for a five star experience, google isn't working well...this is rustic, not quite back to nature, but a shared experience with your fellow travelers...bathroom, showers, pools, kitchen...and that's the whole point.

This is an authentic, shared place. One where you can be you. Where you can recharge and remember yourself. Where you can slow down. Stop. Listen. Listen again. It's the Caribbean as it once was...and will not be ever again. Enjoy. Sit on the deck, early in the morning. Listen to the jungle then. Listen to it at night. Put a pillow over your head because someone has some dogs that have discovered something in the distance. But enjoy it, because there's nothing else like it. If it's not your cup of tea, then have some coffee...that's even better! And the first one up makes the first pot! Oh, and please, do your dishes...and, don't forget to put 'em away too! (grin)

Room Tip: I have a total fondness for rooms in the main "lodge"...it's a completely shared space...

We spent a week at La Finca which is a beautiful property up in the hills of Vieques. The amazing trees and lush surroundings were a great way to get back to nature. The hosts, Bill & Corky, were a great, helpful and nice couple. They were always available to answer questions and provide info about the island. We rented one of the private cottages. B&C directed us to a local market for groceries. La Finca is the perfect place to just relax and unwind. We explored a lot of the beaches on the island but also enjoyed having the swimming pool as well. They have beach chairs and basic snorkeling supplies to borrow. The overall atmosphere is friendly and chilled out. If we could own an island property, this would be it!
We DEFINITELY plan on returning.

Room Tip: We rented one of the individual cottages, which we loved. There is a larger shared main house which...

Four of us stayed at the Family Cabana for five nights. The grounds at La Finca are lovely with lush jungle, papaya trees, little lizards that buzz through the brush and a beautiful view of the starry sky at night. I loved the cabin, which was rustic and well-equipped with everything you need to cook in and relax. The pool was nice and clean, though we didn't use it much, preferring to explore the island and its beaches. The cabin sleeps four comfortably, with a queen bed off in its own quarter on the second floor and two beds in a loft area next to it. There is a fold out bed in the main living space downstairs, but I think it would be a stretch for five people to stay here, since the cabin is small. When we greeted by the owner Corky, she told us "it was like camp" and it IS like camp. If you are expecting luxury, this is not your place. I probably loved it more than my fellow travelers, but I am happy in these kind of surroundings. Everything was clean and I had no problem with mosquitos, though my companions were getting bit at night. There are nets around the beds, which help. We had a car for four days, which I highly recommend, though you can call the publicos for $5pp, and they'll take you anywhere. Still, I could not imagine being without a car on Vieques. This cabin is for those who don't mind roughing it a bit; it's not the W and that's why I loved it.

Our family of four spent five days at La Finca in February. La Finca is a special place to be enjoyed with family and/or friends. It is located up on hill surrounded by lushness and greenery. You can hear the sounds of birds during the day, and frogs and insects at night. It is a place to reconnect with nature and simple living. Whether you want to stay at the communal house or in one of the casitas, you will not be disappointed, as long as you keep in mind that this is not a resort, but a colorful place where nature, wood, and tranquility take center stage. Our daily routine was lovely: breakfast, beach time, big lunch at one of the local restaurants (mostly in Isabel II), back to a different beach until about 6:00pm, finca time, light dinner at home, and sleep. One amazing thing was to be able to see Venus out of our windows at about 5 am. What an AMAZING star!!!HUGE AND BRIGHT!!! We loved the ELEVEN beaches we visited, the wild horses on the sides of the roads, the brightness of the landscape, and the people we came in contact with during our stay. The owners are lovely, accommodating, and happy. Thumbs up for La Finca and Vieques; Quiet & Tranquilo!

Many reviews of La Finca, so will not add too much, other than to say we had a very nice time. We were there for a week, and as a family of 4, two parents and 2 teenage kids, it was a great option for us, and our lifestyle. In looking at the reviews, you see phrases like, “laid back, simple, comfy and slow and relaxed”… these hit the target well. There is not much going on… and that is the point. The grounds are very pretty, the pool very nice, and the porches, chairs and hammocks call you to just sit back and relax.

Other reviews will call the place “no frills, or having rough edges” this is also very true. If you want fancy, try the W down the hill. There are also other B&B like places that seem to have cleaner rooms…. But we picked La Finca because it seemed like a “cabin with palm trees” and that is what we got… and we loved it. The place could use a bit more dusting, and some new beach towels, but the place feels like you borrowed the place from an old friend…. We felt instantly like the place was “ours” and were comfortable in it right away.

The hosts were friendly and chatty without being too involved. Their advice on island going-ons was solid. We rented a whole house, but the central house and more communal rooms are funky, like living in a big tree house.

The location on top of the island allows for good breezes and nice views. A 4x4 is certainly not needed to get to La Finca, but is good for getting to many of the island beaches. Monday nights a local place called Chez Shack offers good food and dance party (although drinks are made with mix.. so stick with beer)

We are glad we found La Finca. If you like laid back, funky, not fancy, and don’t mind a few cute lizards on the walls, then this is a place you will remember for a long time.

Room Tip: We rented the big yellow house.... great for a family of 4. You can also rent the little cabin next...

Corky makes you rethink what is really important when vacationing or just plain living for that matter. We stayed 8 nights and it instantly felt like home and like a little community. Because we stayed longer than most, we got to know a lot of the other guests in this very relaxed space that includes an open kitchen that steps out to a huge patio with chairs and hammocks and a big eating table. Guests can wake up with the help of a communal coffee pot and leisurely watch the sunrise over the ocean and listen to the jungle pulsating with birds and insects and frogs. As the day gets going you can start to plan your day and see if anybody else has been to the beach your going to and you can easily get a review or a recommendation. Corky and Bill are always available for information and recommendations or maybe a ride into town? On our first day we ran into Corky 3 times after she dropped us off. Hey Corky did you buy that chair at the thrift store yet? After a hard day of roughing it at the beach the outdoor showers were perfect. We enjoyed dining out with impromptu get togethers with many other quests and enjoyed many wonderful home cooked meals as well. Our last night we had a celebration potluck dinner. It was amazing. Thanks again everybody!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Vieques' most beautiful rustic getaway and original eco-tourism destination since 1995....A rare taste of the Caribbean -- the way it used to be, quiet, natural & affordable. Perfect for groups of two to thirty, workshops, family reunions, or romantic getaways for just the two of you. Anyone who likes off the beaten track and wants to experience the Caribbean the way it was meant to be: quiet, natural and affordable. Salt water pool, outdoor showers, hammocks, views and breezes. La Finca is a cluster of handmade houses -- our large wooden main house, Casa Grande, alone can sleep 18-22, but we also have two family size cabanas and two smaller casitas, all on 3 acres of fruit trees & palms, on the off-beat island of Vieques, seven miles from Puerto Rico's eastern shore; a 25 minute flight and a world away from San Juan....We're up in the hills, with beautiful views and tradewinds, three miles away from the bustle of town...Talk about getting away! We're not a hotel, or a b&b ... The finca is our family's own private "finca" that we love to share with like-minded eco travelers -- folks who like things as natural and simple as possible. Our towels don't match, our showers are outdoors (don't worry -- they're private), the skies are jet black and studded with stars, and the property is dotted in coco palms, mangoes, starfruit, bananas, and a dozen hammocks ... Tropical summer camp, quiet and beautiful. Think Swiss Family Robinson... (Please note: Feb-March 2015 renting the whole finca means all houses/cabins with exception of Cabanita and includes 10 bedrooms with 7 baths and can sleep up to 33.) ... more   less
