Funky, lively town. We spent time here because I am a photographer and there was a picture on every corner. Eat at Coconuts and say hi to Alex for us.

“Some destinations, expensive, some a hassle; This one: both”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2012

It's really too bad about Vieques in general, and Isabel Segunda in particular:

It costs a lot to stay and eat there, for what you get.

Unfortunately, Isabel Segunda (and Vieques) are victims of a very unreliable ferry service (they blame the incompetent government in San Juan).

As a tourist, you're pretty much forced to rent a Big *** Jeep to get around, at $ 60 a day, and sucking $ 15 of gas a day; that is if you're lucky, and there's gas on the island, else you have to pay $ 7 a gallon to the rental company if you can't fill it.

You're told not to lock the car (to avoid damage when the petty thieves try to break into it) nor can you leave anything on the beach (same reason), so here you are in paradise and you can't take pictures of it because you didn't bring a camera in the supposed likelihood that it would be stolen. A locals explains that it is known who the thieves are, but the cops won't do a thing about it.

(Yes, absolutely, there are wonderful things about the Isabel Segunda, as I covered in other reviews.)

I can't tell if Viequenos want tourists or not, but I sure felt that the place was trying to keep us out. And that's too bad.

“Temporarily out of service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2012

This may rank as one of the saddest excuses for a town considering its location on otherwise idyllic Vieques. A local told us not to bother going there and she was probably right... although it did pique my interest. There are only about 4 or 5 places in town to eat and they are either costly or haven't seen a health inspector in years. It is also the only place on the island with a bank (which is packed with customers). All the ATM machines I saw read "temporarily out of service." I think the whole town is...

“Take a Walk!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2012

Come to Isabel Segunda thinking about a relax walk around the little streets. You can take a cold beer in any bar and have a relax conversation with any local, they're good people. If you want to eat something, they have a little of everything around the city.
