El Patio is a small restaurant which has excellent local Latin food. Our fish was very fresh and the sauce on the steamed vegetables was excellent. Kiki, the waiter, was particularly helpful in selecting items on the menu.

You won’t find a luxurious décor or a wine list at Patio, but it is one of the very best places to have lunch in Vieques. I even consider it to be a ‘must’ for at least one of the afternoons of your next visit to the island. Located near Isabel Segunda’s busiest intersection, Patio is named after the small outdoor seating area in front of a strip of shops and bodegas.
Patio is all about local staples, served in generous portions, at affordable prices. On any given day, the menu can have items such as rice and beans, roasted chicken breast, pork chops, mofongo, white fish filets, fried plantains, skirt steak, and sometimes paella. These are items that are served in Puerto Rican and Dominican joints all over my New York City. But the dishes at Patio are mainly sourced locally, and have a different texture and flavor than the same dishes served up north. They certainly seemed like the real deal. And I plan to go back once every year.
You can get highbrow versions of these dishes, sure (like the incredible mofongo at El Quenepo). But Patio is like the home cooked food of Vieques elevated just enough to serve in a sit-down restaurant. No bonus points for presentation or décor. This is simply excellent, stick-to-your-ribs food. With friendly service and a new executive chef, this little place has gone from serving epanadas with cold rice and beans (my experience three years ago) to full meals that many Puerto Ricans are proud to cook at home.
The “secret” hot sauce is as good as all the other reviews say, and should not be missed!
They serve beer, and the restaurant is expanding into a retail space directly next door. I hope this means that Patio is here to stay for a long time. Fit a lunch at Patio in between your morning and afternoon beach trips. You’ll be well fed and hopefully impressed as I was.

Been to Viequez eight times and always eat at Carlos' restaurants now call El Patio. Excellent value and enjoy seatting outside watching Viequez go by in the evenings. A few words with Carlos is always memorable. We eat here at least twice each week.

After searching Vieques and being disappointed we arrived tonight at a liitle joint in Isabell. We ordered the fresh Tuna and Skirt Steak- and wow -just awesome. The fish was tender and braised to perfection with a smokey sauce. The steak was tender and so juicy- best steak I ever ate. The beans and fired plantations were also good. Nothing on the menu was over $19, and I would recommend the Tuna and steak. After dinner we chatted with Carlos, an Argentine chef of 20 years and David the waiter who gave great service. Come here first you won't be sorry !

Hey Carlos & El Patio Staff,

Six women from Wisconsin had one of our most memorable meals with you -- remember the standing ovation? Food was delicious and service was great. Don't go here if you want fancy surroundings - we wanted local flavor and good food, and that was definitely what we got. We were seated next to a local gentleman frequent diner, and that was our first good sign. The much-mentioned hot sauce (mango/cilantro flavor) was a hit with us as well, but we didn't fare as well getting out with much -- after persistent begging, we were permitted to buy two tablespoons in a tiny container. Geez - it's not like we're going to have it scientifically analyzed and go into business. My one suggestion would be that you put it on in a condiment dish on every table and your business will soar!!! Some favorites from our dining: rice & beans, whole snapper, shrimp scampi. Give up the sauce, man!!!
