My family and I stayed at the Cane Garden Villas during our February vacation. The compound is perfect for a large group looking to stay in one spot yet spacious enough so that each couple/family can have plenty of peace and quiet and privacy. The villas are located at the end of a long private drive. The entire property is beautifully landscaped (the gardener sometimes does arrive early in the morning to mow). The main house, where my parents stayed, is gorgeous, with a huge king suite, balcony that overlooks the pool and ocean beyond, and kitchen with modern appliances and concrete countertops. Our two sons (ages 6 and 8), stayed in the twin beds in the lower level of the house that also has a laundry room and 1/2 bath.
We (my husband, daughter, and myself) stayed at a neighboring villa, that has its own kitchen, sitting room, expansive covered porch, and bedrooms that each have their own bath.
This place is cooled by a constant breeze and we never did feel as though we needed air conditioning. The view of the ocean and islands is magnificent and the constant rustle of the palm fronds that surround the property can bring anyone into a 'zen' state. And the pool is just awesome.
The kitchens are fully equipped for cooking but we also enjoyed exploring the island's restaurants that range from authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, to fine dining. The beaches are beautiful and if you happen to see another couple or family on the same beach it is easy to feel like your private oasis has been intruded upon.
Vieques is not a place to come to if you are looking for lots of nightlife. It is a quiet, unique place and a hidden gem of the Caribbean.
