Are you going to Vieques? You MUST stay at the Hacienda. I wanted to move in. Everything is great. The staff is warm and accommodating. The breakfast is unbeatable (get the spicy hacienda fries.) The view cannot be believed. The pool is perfect. They'll pack lunch for you for your outings for a VERY reasonable price. And the hammocks are heavenly. The Hacienda is located just outside Esperanza, which is where you'll want to stay. I cannot ooh and aah enough about this place enough.

If you are expecting to be relaxing and do nothing but chill, then this is your place. If you don't expect TV/internet, then you are fine. The pool lights went off one night sometime before 9pm and there was no one insight to assist...including multiple phone calls to all of the numbers listed in the binder in the library and at the front desk. Although beach chairs and beach towels were available, the beach was far away. The room walls are thin. The honor bar was awesome. The full breakfast, that came with the room rate, was wonderful. We went with the cheapest priced room. Our room was spacious and had a beautiful view outside. Every where you turned, you will get a wonderful view...serenity...We enjoyed our r&r since our mentality was to lay back, chill-out and not to expect too much. I'm probably glad that I never met Burr, the owner, now that I've read the negative reviews.

This place was amazing, no T.V., a pool, a view of the just the ocean a small town filled with locals, decent places to eat and no tourism.

The rooms were great, we stayed in #22 and it was perfect. The breakfast was very good and included in the price. It is not a continental breakfast, but a full breakfast with pancakes and eggs, etc.

This is a laid back island, so be prepared to just go with the flow and not worry to much about what is coming next.

The beach is a bit of a walk and I suggest renting a car through the hotel. You NEED a car! I ignored this thinking that I could just walk, but to really see the beaches, you need a car or a scooter.

Also, do the Bio Bay Tour through Island Adventures. That is a few steps from the hotel. They do an excellent job. I don't recommend doing the Kayak tour, a few of our group did and were literally eaten alive by the mosquitos b/c you kayak through the mangroves. You cannot use bug spray with DEET, it is against the law on Vieques. So they tell you to use baby oil...uh no! (This was another company that told me this, that is why I used Island Adventures).

Go to Haciendo Tamarindo...you will not be disappointed. I think this was the place I have been looking for on all my previous vacations.

Stayed at the Hacienda Tamarindo over Memorial in 2005. Yes a little late for a review, but I have been recently thinking about returning. We went for a wedding and stay 4 nights in a 2 room suite (3 adults in room total). The rooms and bathrooms were very clean. This is a small place so there are only small wall/window ac units. But we were never uncomfortable. The pool has the most scenic view and we loved the honor bar. Also our rental car was there upon arrival.

We attending a wedding at the Inn on the Blue Horizon. I liked the hotel but if I return to Vieques, I would definitely stay at HacTam again. While the IotBH has a larger pool and the rooms are spread out and slightly more private... the breakfast at the HacTam cannot be beat! It was some of the best food we had in Vieques! Each morning the menu varied and everything was delicious.

Also HacTam is right next to the Bio Bay center.

I hope to return soon!

I checked in to Hacienda Tamarindo for 3 nights after having stayed 2 nights at a small Guesthouse on the north side of the island that had Wifi and TV where I had been very, very comfortable. So I was a little surprised that my comparatively hefty room price didn't include either, and that there was no TV or internet access on the entire site. Aside from that, the place is fabulous! Hacienda Tamarindo is maybe 10 minutes slow drive away from Sombe, and close enough to the Esperanza Malecon action without being in the middle of it. My room had a private patio and an ocean view to. die. for. I've read other comments about noise bleeding into the rooms, and I can see how this could be an issue in the high season because all the rooms are louvered, but this was low season and I didn't have a problem. The pool is very lovely. I spent a lazy morning digesting the great breakfast and reading in one of the 2 hammocks slung in a lovely shaded area overlooking the pool. Everywhere you look there is beauty. Loved the honor bar and while there are no mini-fridges in the room there is a room cooler and unlimited ice. Beach chair and ample towels are provided. A full (inlcuded) breakfast is served from 8-10. One day, Margie one of the staff packed up a breakfast burrito to go for me so I could do a yoga class on the beach at Sombe. It was so good!

This hotel will give you the total island experience! If you're expecting a chain hotel with the conveniences that it offers, this is not for you. It has a great B&B feel with great views of the ocean and a great island feeling throughout. The breakfast is great. The swimming pool is beautiful; hammocks everywhere; bougainvillas, flowers, little water features, a beautiful parrot which talks... you get the idea. The rooms don't have central a/c but the sea breeze is great and it has very powerful split unit air cons. Either way, you don't miss it at all; in fact it's one of the charms. Highly recommend it. Just make sure you rent a car when you're staying here and you want to go down any of the towns.

Also, the hotel staff is great in helping out with managing your itineraries: snorkeling tours, biobay tours, etc. They also have a bathroom that you can use if you want to check out and still be able to use a bathroom.
All in all a great experience and very highly recommended.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Vieques’ Hacienda Tamarindo offers 17 very special rooms, each lovingly and creatively designed and decorated by owner, Linda Vail -- her swan song after over 20 years as a commercial interior designer. Each guest room and public space is unique; imaginatively spiced with a lifetime’s accumulation of art, antiques, and collectibles. An ancient Tamarind tree in the lobby atrium majestically rises three stories through the center of the building. Terraces, courtyards, and sitting rooms offer ample space for relaxation and conversation. The Hacienda is perched on a hilltop with spectacular 180 degree views of the Caribbean -- from sunrise to sunset; looking down on the bedazzling, ever-changing myriad of blue, emerald and turquoise waters. Caribbean trade winds and lazy paddle fans keep you cool and comfortable. Here, you can fall asleep to a tree frog serenade and awake to the smell of jasmine on the gentle sea breeze. ... more   less
