“Must see beach!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2014

This beach is gorgeous! The water laps at the beach like you would imagine in a lake and not an ocean. Very calm. There is a strip of restaurants about a mile long right before the entrance that has great drinks/food and shopping. You could park there and walk to the beach if you do not want to pay the 5$ fee to enter the parking area. Wish we could've spent more time there. Will def go again!

“Beautiful and family friendly!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2014 via mobile

We were staying nearby and went to this beach twice. We loved it. The water was calm and although it was busy it wasn't obnoxiously crowded. We rented an im real and chair one day, which was nice. We also had great lunches and drinks at the stand right on the beach. The food was reasonable and yummy and the drinks were awesome! This is a perfect beach for families.

“Puerto Rico Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2014

We took our PR vacation from June 7-21. This is where we stayed and how I planned it:
1. We stayed two days in San Juan to see the sights of Old San Juan. My interest was the old forts and the waterfront. If you like nightlife and activities going on I would say stay a little longer. For just sightseeing, 1 or 2 days is enough. If you are on a budget, don’t stay in old San Juan where hotel can run over $200.00 a night. Instead, stay a clean reasonable place like Dreams Hotel ($65.00) and rent a car. You can park at the garages in Old San Juan and walk or take the free shuttle to your destinations.

2. After San Juan, we drove to Corcega Beach south of Rincon on the west coast and stayed at a rented condo for a week. Just use a site like Trip Advisor or similar and use their tools to book a condo. We had a nice oceanfront, ocean view, beachfront, condo, with a pool for $1000.00 a week or so. There a lot of restaurants and other things to do in the area, or you can just hang on the beach. You could snorkel and see things within a few yards of the beach because of the steep drop and location of reef / rocks that Corcega has.

3. After Rincon we drove to Luquillo and stayed on Playa Azul for 5 days. The beach is much wider than the ones we saw at the west coast and the wave action much different. If you just like to wade out into the water this is a better place than the west coast. The beach has a much more shallow drop off so you can wade out and play in the waves, unlike at Rincon where the drop is right off the beach. However, I found that snorkeling was better at Rincon, even though visibility was probably a little less. We rented a condo at Playa Azul Towers for about $800.00 a week. This condo had nice ocean views, but you had a very short walk to the ocean instead of being right off the end of the pool, like in Rincon.

Conclusions: Personally, I like the east coast better than the west coast, because of the beach and the proximity to other attractions. The El Yunque Rainforest is on this side of the island. Also, there seems to be more excursion options as well as available ways to visit Vieques and Culebra. On the east coast you can get great snorkeling by taking a excursion. We took an excursion to Culebra with ss Tobias and had a wonderful time snorkeling at Flamencio beach and Luis Pena Cayo. One thing that I also noticed is that Old San Juan is within driving range of Luquillo. This means you could skip staying in San Juan at all and just drive from the condo and see Old San Juan, thus eliminating one location move.

“Great tropical beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2014

Luquillo Beach is an absolutely beautiful tropical beach. The sand is extremely soft and fine, almost powdery. The water is calm with waves rarely exceeding a few inches making it a great swimming location.

There is an entrance fee if you park in the main area. In the main stretch, there are also bathrooms and changing facilities (for an additional fee). It makes it a little easier to spend a full day there with kids.

“Beautiful but overrated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014

After reading so many great reviews about Luquillo beach, we included it in our itinerary on the day we visited El Yunque. Yes, its pretty but...one of the top beaches? Didn't think so. Its a rather small beach, and less crowded when we went. But also the waves were huge so with a little kid, it was not that appropriate. The town itself is small with just a cafe in town. Am glad I didnt plan for a longer visit here. Our beach across the hotel in San Juan suited us just fine:)
