Owner description: Balneario Monserrate, often referred to simply as Luquillo Beach, is a long cresent of fine sand, with plenty of mature palm trees for shade, and El Yunque National Forest in the background. Due to a fringing reef, there are no waves to speak of, so it's a perfect beach for young kids. The beach has some food kiosks, restrooms, changing rooms, showers, and lifeguards. There is a small fee to park in the gated parking area.

We were originally going to stay at a hotel on the beach, and glad we didnt after visiting one afternoon in mid October 2012. The beach itself looked good, but on closer inspection the area was filthy (eastern end of beach); cat and dog faeces every where, especially on the grass between the road and the beach. Bins overflowing and rubbish blown all around. Majority of buildings were run down or unoccupied and vandalised. The area didnt feel safe in the late afternoon. Severn Seas beach further along the coast was much cleaner, was clearly well maintained and felt safer.

It is a beautiful beach! Once inside the beach it feels so good, you won't want to come out of the water. It was warm the time that I was there. I had a good time. I went with friends. We rented a condo and a car in Puerto Rico and went driving to different places.

Spent a few hours at this beach today and it was awsome. It has a very nice sandy beach that you can swim and enjoy walking. It has a sandy bottom for as far as you can touch. A more gradule decline which is great for smaller clhildren. Spend the whole time without any type of water shoes, both swimmming and walking. There was very little trash as previous posts stated. A few bottle caps, etc but for the most part it was very clean. Met the most wonderful local guy helping to rent the chairs and umbrella's. He was making and selling hats and bowls made from palm tree branches. He also made my daughter's and myself roses from the branches. If I every return, I will definately re-visit this beach. It was well worth the $4.28 parking charge!

In Sept. anyway, there was hardly anyone there. A long, sandy beach with places to picnic, either in the sand, or on grassy knolls just above the sand. Very little was open in the small town of Luquillo, but at the same place you turn into the town, turn the opposite way, go to KFC, get some chicken, and take it down to the beach for a terrific picnic.
