This old hotel has been well-restored. It is located 1/2 block from the central square in old Ponce. The area has been well kept as well and offer excellent opportunites for night time dining and day time snacks. Several of the restaurants have outstanding cuisine. The staff of the hotel were more than accomodating. We arrived just before the high season, but during the festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe, without reservations, and were lucky enough to get the last remaining room. The room was small, but management forewarned us and insisted we see it first before taking it. It was small, but the air-conditioning worked, and we had no complaints. Other rooms are much more accomodating and all rooms are reasonable. The staff was extremely helpful with advice and making arrangements for us. In a conversation with one of the owners we learned that the restoration and improvements are an on-going project.
I thought this place was nice. On this particular trip, I was travelling alone and not looking for luxury. I just wanted a simple affordable place to stay while checking out Ponce. Melia was the perfect choice.
Upon checking in, the front desk clerk offered me a couple free upgrade options as they were not very full that night. She was very honest about the pros and cons of each room. I chose the king bed room with a balcony overlooking the plaza, despite her caution that they would come clean the street early in the morning and could be a little noisy. I was happy with the choice as the view was great.
The location is perfect for pedestrian sight seeing, right in the heart of Ponce. It was a warm day when I arrived and the pool felt great. A nice little oasis in the middle of the busy area.
The hotel is old and has some expected wear and tear as a result. The elevator is small and does not inspire much confidence. Also the breakfast was pretty minimal. Don't expect much more than OJ and a bagel.
The staff was helpful and able to give me clear driving directions upon departure.
If you are looking for something basic in the heart of Ponce then Melia is a great option.
We had a lovely experience at this hotel. It is located right on the central plaza in Ponce, a beautiful old town. The hotel has colonial architecture, and has been around for over 100 years. They have done a great job updating it, with a beautiful pool, gorgeous roof deck w/ fantastic views over the city, updated rooms w/ all the amenities (even if the structure is a bit older) and wonderfully helpful service desk folks. It is also well-priced, at about $90/night for two people (Puerto Rico is expensive!). You feel a bit like you're transported in time, think Midnight in Paris w/ all the amenities. However, if you're expecting super-modern Ramada/Raddisson style place, this is not the place for you. It is also next to some of the most delicious ice cream I've ever had - try the coconut. :)
Did a Scuba Diving trip in La puergua and stayed in ponce to relax. Here is the scoop
Parking is not free you park in the back of the hotel where you meet a guy in a booth same like finding parking at a boardwalk and the charge you $3 bucks for 24hrs Parking. This City mostly looks run down at first glance but is rich in history. Sleeping is basic A/C is basic bathroom basic ..ok Listen....if your looking to be pampered this is not the hotel for you its basically a room to crash your head after a long hard sight seeing etc. Is it worth the 103.05 after taxes that I payed not at all. bottom line stay here if you need a quick place to lay your head nothing more.
Melia is the best location in Ponce for the value. Located in the center of this southern city in Puerto Rico, the Hotel Melia is comfortable, nice swimming pool! Don't expect a five star hotel but the value can not be matched. Accessible to the best places in Ponce. On every small trip I make to the south, I always stay in Melia!
