We arrived in the early evening at our hotel. We were too tired to go out for dinner and opted to try the hotel restaurant. La Cava was a pleasant surprise. The place is intimate and has a very pleasnt atmosphere. There was a lone guitarist that played soft latin music. He was excellent. The waiter could not have been nicer. He immediately brought over some warm crispy bread and olive oil. It was most welcome as we were ravenous after our flight. The food was also are nice surprise. We had some of the best fried calamari we have had in a long time. Also had a neat mesclun salad with grilled peaches and a savory goat cheese cake. A perfect combination of flavors. Slightly sweet peaches with a light char and smooth , creamy ,warm pyramid shaped cheesecake. Delicious. We both had salmon. One was encrusted in potatoes and the other was with an orange beurre blanc. Both were very good. We had a creme brulee with canepa which is a locally grown fruit. Also very good. We ended with cappuccino made with good Puerto Rican coffee. This was a first rate meal. We never expected to find such a meal in a hotel restaurant. We were delighted. It started over vacation on a very good note. I think the prices were what you would expect for a good meal. I wouldn't do it every night but it's nice to do at least once.
