My husband and I just spent a week in a 2 bedroom through a timeshare trade. We invited another couple to come with us since we were able to get a 2 bedroom. Overall the resort was very nice and we would stay there again. It was very family-oriented.

The Positives:
1. Very nice private beach. Complete with shade areas and ample beach chairs.
2. The pool and surrounding grounds were VERY nice. You hardly even pay attention to the closed hotel next door.
3. All of the rooms have an ocean view. We requested a room on a higher floor (per suggestions from trip advisor) a couple weeks before our stay and were given a room on the 7th floor with a spectacular view.
4. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and very nice. They gave us suggestions on excursions and restaurants to try in the area.
5. The hotel was very quiet and even thought it was completely booked in never felt crowded.
6. The 1 bedroom was spacious with a nice sized kitchen, dining area and living room. The living room and bedroom both have a tv and dvd. The bedroom also has a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. It had a balcony you could access from the bedroom and living room. The studio lock-off had a small kitchenette and had it's own balcony.
7. Not once did anyone ever approach us to go to a timeshare presentation. You barely would have known they were even selling them. All they had was one sign in the lobby.
8. There is a tour company on-site called Dorado tours that offers different excursions if you don't have a car. However, if not enough people sign-up they will cancel the tour.
9. There is also a spa on-site I didn't use any of the services. But I did see someone getting a massage on the beach which looked relaxing.
10. There are tennis courts, a basketball court, ping-pong tables and a small miniature golf course on-site.

The not so great:
1. As most people already noted, the rooms really do need some updating. And our kitchen constantly had tiny ants on the counters hat looked like the were coming in from a crack on the wall. So we had to do a good amount of cleaning just to keep them at bay.
2. You get one room cleaning during a 7-day stay. But with the ant issues, which apparently was an issue or the whole property, they probably need to do it more often.

Additionally:
1. There are corner 2-bd units on some of the floors that include wrap-around balconies and have a different floor plan. The front desk staff said you can request one of these if an owner is not staying their the same weekend.
2. The hotel staff has list of restaurants and menus from the area. They will help you select a good restaurant and arrange for transportation if you don't want to drive. It was only $20 round trip for my husband and I to go into town.
3. I would suggest a rental car if you want to do a lot of touring of the island. Also, you need a car to get groceries etc. The store on-site only has a limited amount of food.

Room Tip: 1. Ask for a room on the 6th floor or higher for a good ocean view. 2. If you have kids, a first fl...

Interval International rates this place as 'premium' - what a joke. I had read previous reviews about the need for a make-over & that's not all it needs. It needs more than cosmetics. Upon arrival neither phone worked, nor did the dishwasher. It took maintenance 3 times to figure out the problem w/ the dishwasher (of course, it took my husband 3 trips to the front desk-3 floors down-to let them know the problem had not been solved). The kitchen is inadequate as far as basic cooking tools. On the 4th night as I crawled into bed I realized the bottom sheet was no longer tucked in so I pulled back all the sheets only to discover that the sheets were so old & worn you could see right thru them. It was 10:30 at night & I had to call the front desk, again, & ask for a new set of sheets. This just shouldn't be so in a 'premium' timeshare. Two nights prior to departure my husband reserved one of the two grills to grill our chicken. When we went to the grills, one was out of gas so everyone was lined up for the one remaining. Guess what happened then? Grill 2 ran out of gas.

Our family of 4 enjoyed a nice vacation here with a 2 bedroom condo. The facility is really part of Hyatt's vacation club so there are both time-share guests as well as hotel guests. As hotel guests we had daily maid service but not to the standard of a full-service hotel. The place was pretty quiet even though there were plenty of guests present. We missed the amenities of a full-service hotel such as restaurants. There is only one restaurant which is a grill with a limited menu. Also, some sites show pictures of the slide and river pool of the old Hyatt Cerromar. That hotel is abandoned and behind a screen next to this place and the facilities there are not available.

On the other hand, we were a short drive to San Juan, there are plenty of golf courses nearby and the 2 bedroom setup allowed our family to spread out. We had a good time.

The overall hotel was maintained and clean. The GM Mary was very accommodating to our family. The front desk staff could be a little more knowledgeable of the area and prioritize ck-in procedures,in-house guests, phone calls. The H20 cabana attendant (Armando) was very helpful with local restaurant suggestions & directions not to mention an overall good conversation about the island. We are awaiting a renovation and will consider returning.

Just back from a beautiful week at the Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar. Our condo was clean and perfect. The staff goes way above and beyond to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. The property is beautiful and the beach is lovely.
I had no problems with the pools and jacuzzis. Only improvement could be if the managers could add more shade huts on the beach, there were just a few which quickly get taken by people preferring shade.
We had the beach almost to ourselves most of the time anyway and the beach staff is very accommodating!
You can get drivers to take you almost anywhere. I recommend signing up for the San Juan tour.

Room Tip: you need to get to the beach early to get a shaded spot if that's important to you

We booked a one bedroom unit and had a very nice stay. Our room was on the 8th with a ocean view. We read the reviews good and bad, her is our assessment.

1) Property is a bit dated, however maintained adequately.
2) The beach is nice and uncrowded.
3) The property is a good distance from San Juan, therefore a rental car is a must. The secluded location makes for a relaxing vacation.
4) Owners of the resort need to keep pressure on Hyatt to do something with their old hotel next door. This resort could so much better if hotel property next door was usable.
5 The internet worked and was as good as at home in Florida.

All-in-all we enjoyed the resort. It was a great value!

I am an owner in the Hyatt Residence program and must say that this is the only place I have stayed in that is in need of an update,. It is well below the standards I have come to expect from The Hyatt. With that said, the staff was very friendly & helpful. The beach is very nice and the pool area adequate. Although we were told that the resort was almost full we really did not have a sense of crowding in any part of the resort. We stayed for 10 days and did rent a car. There are plenty of different places to eat within a 20 minute drive but only the beach bar if you are on foot. The menu at the beach bar is limited and the food only average. We , like most people who are return travelers, shopped locally and ate many meals in the unit. We had a very relaxing, peaceful stay BUT please, spruce up the place!
