“Extremely Grateful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

Very beautiful, wonderful hotel and not expensive with all the amenitites. We made reservations through Hotels.com but when we arrived Del Mar did not have a record of it. However, they were extrememly nice about the whole thing and gave us our rooms while they solved the matter. The staff, everyone is great-friendly, helpful, nice and honest. The second night we had dinner at their restaurant-delicious-around 6:00 pm, then lounged around the pool area-beautiful, went to the casino, came back to the pool area-by the time we went to our rooms it was pretty late. Around 1:00 in the morning my phone rang. The security guard was calling informing me that they had found a wallet-my heart sank. It contained my id's, itinenary but most of all ALL my vacation money and debit/credit cards. They returned it with nothing intact. The waitress had found it after we left. I was so grateful-and they wouldn't accept compensation. Complimentary Managers Reception is delightful.

Typical Embassy Suites hotel. Clean rooms, friendly staff, and good breakfast. It was quiet since it is the low season but it is right on Dorado Beach, they have a golf course and a casino just a minute walk away.

Last fall of 2011, my husband & I celebrated our 44th anniversary at the Embassy Suites in Dorado. We were treated wonderfully by the staff and manager, Marisol. They even arranged for a reputable taxi service to pick us up at the airport! Our room was upgraded and filled with 'surprises' to make our anniversary special. Loved the manager's special ( altho the snacks could use some upgrading). Dinners at the hotel were great! The breakfasts were full of selections cooked to order. The pool was AWESOME! The beach, quiet and serene. We went during the tropical storm season (less of a crowd) but had 6 sunny days in the 80'-90's. My husband golfed everyday. We loved it SO much, we are going back for our 45th anniversary!! On weekends, a few vendors set up shop in the atrium. i bought some lovely jewelry made by the locals and reasonably priced. If you want allot of 'action' on site, you will fnd a resort set apart from that & very private, safe, and relaxing. We never rented a car!

Room Tip: Top floor end unit gives best ocean view

The reviews for this explain a giant part of the problem with this resort - It is trying to be all things to all people, and therefore not executing any of them well! Hosting little league/teen baseball tournaments while at the same time bragging about the casino and romantic vibe. They can't achieve both correctly, and you can guess which one wins out - the noisy group one (whether it be a wedding party, sports group, or family reunion), it makes a quiet, relaxing vacation impossible! The atrium really doesn't help here, as with 7 floors, guess how well the noise of kids (both under 18 & above) carries up to all the rooms. This means nightlife on the weekends and on weekdays, when there are less people, those that are left seem to forget any others are there...
Onto other areas, the rooms are clean, but aged with sagging stained couches and broken/stained bathroom tile. Each room, as per Embassy standards, has a living area, complete with microwave and mini-fridge, as well as a balcony (that is big enough to hang out on) off the bedroom, so ample room to relax. Cleaning staff seems to have too many rooms, especially considering the state many seem to leave them in (many families and groups sharing 2-room concept (since couch pulls out)). Breakfast is the "normal" Embassy fare, but so crowded you have to really want it. I will say on weekends they seem to set up a second area if you don't want cook to order, but as they don't tell you that, doesn't really solve the line problem. The manager's reception is great from an adult beverage option standpoint. The most I've ever seen at an Embassy. Unfortunately, ample cons here as well... Once again the lines are horrendous, and the food portion consists of gold fish, pretzels, and maybe tortilla chips every night. As this is a resort, there is an entire "normal" bar operating in the facility right by the manager's reception, yet even on very busy weekend nights, no support to the manager's reception bar is offered.
The pool area is large and in great shape. Unfortunately, no "adult" area so come prepared to share evey ounce of space. The "private" beach is really a cove and while the views are great from the rooms, the beach itself up close is dirty (wear beach shoes as ample glass, cigarette butts, and other trash to cause an issue).
The casino is quite small, albeit has tables and machines so can spend time there. It played "tight" in our opinion.
We did not use the golf course so cannot comment on that.
We did get a car, and the idea that downtown Dorado is in easy walking distance is a myth. You can get out of the resort (through all the houses and condos) on a sidewalk, and there are two pharmacies and some fast food just beyond the security gate area, but to get to downtown Dorado is quite a bit further and with next to no sidewalks and some crazy drivers, not really a good idea.

Room Tip: 2 sides have an ocean view, higher floors ensure you can actually enjoy it.

The hotel offers an excellent breakfast menu, the line is pretty long on the weekend, however it’s worth the wait. There is a gorgeous atrium in the center of the lobby, & the hotel is located on the ocean. Some of the staff spoke English, however they were still helpful & friendly.

My husband & I stayed at the hotel for a week, and I will say it was a decent stay, not 5-star, more like 3-star. I noticed the rooms are somewhat outdated, cracks in the molding, dirty grouts, and ball of dust hiding in the corners. It didn't hit the level of disgust, however I noticed it. Our bed was very comfortable & we had an amazing view of the ocean.

Just like many resorts they have fees. $10.25 for self parking per day & $18.25 for valet parking per day, & resort tax fee at check out. If you are going to rent a vehicle, please get extra insurance coverage. Most US insurance companies does not offer coverage in Puerto Rico. The locals are reckless drivers, stop signs, & street lights are optional. They drive worst than New York's cab drivers. The lanes ends without any notice, you will be cut without any warning & the street signs are wrote in Spanish. Definitely! be extra careful driving in Puerto Rico.

The hotel is 35mins from SJU airport, it’s impossible to locate the hotel with the GPS, GPS will only recognize the hotel as “Calle Madre Perla” not (201 Dorado Del Mar Blvd). Puerto Rico is awesome! Make sure to stop at Old San Juan & El Yunque Rainforest for a fabulous time.

Room Tip: Definitely get an ocean view.

This is the nicest ES we've been to. Very clean and spacious. The pool area and view of the ocean is spectacular... nice for hanging out in the morning (before an adventure) or at sunset (after you get home). Lots of palm trees inside and out. The swimming beach is nice and calm... perfect for little kids. I'm a big kid and love to float around in the waves, so the ES beach was too calm for me. Dorado is close to San Juan and the whole island is accessible within hours. Puerto Rico is my newest favorite destination with so much to explore and enjoy that I can't wait to get back!

Room Tip: Facing the beach in an upper room gave us a spectacular view. I wish we would have lounged on our t...

We recently stayed the last week of July 2012. We were there while a baseball tournament was being held and many of the teams stayed at the resort. Not really a problem because our kids play baseball as well but it was really crowded when the teams returned to the resort for the day. Breakfast lines were also excessive for this reason and finding a table to sit down to eat proved challenging. Rooms were clean, service was decent, resort property, poo,l and beach were all acceptable. The happy hour was a little unsettling with the presence of "policia". We were like "What's up with that?? Did someone take too much popcorn??" I do have to recommend the sangria... very tasty!! Overall we had a nice stay with our kids. The only really negative experience was the horrible spa service. Don't expect a typical spa as the "spa" is a room in the rear of their fitness room. The actual spa area included a pedicure chair... that's it!!! Zero spa ambiance and the esthetician that the front desk staff "bragged" about appeared to have no formal training. I could have done a better facial just based on my former facial experiences. My facial didn't include a neck/shoulder massage or a hand treatment. Petra just slathered the products on, wiped them off, and sent me on my merry way. Not "spa" quality at all. It mimicked a product demonstration at a mall kiosk!!! Thanks Petra for your inexperience and thanks to the front desk staff for recommending "your best"... lol. On a scale of 1-10, I give my facial a negative 5!!! I also would not recommend this resort for a romantic getaway. A family vacation would be more suitable for this resort. The parking wasn't as bad a some complained in the tripadvisor threads and we felt safe overall. Maybe some are not used to traveling through "el barrio". Thanks for a decent family time. Wouldn't say I'd be back, though.

We hope that the Basketball Tournament was a success and that the Boys had a great time. It is so great to witness the enthusiasm and passion for their game even at their age. We enjoy having them year after year as they are very well behaved.

We thank you for your comments on our Resort especially such an important entertainment areas like the beach and pool area. We also appreciate your making mention to the secured multi level parking garage that accommodates up to 545 cars.

I do apologize for your experience with our SPA services and will personally speak to the Manager in charge.

Although you mentioned that you would be concern to return due to this experience and the crowds of the summer months, we hope you would reconsider and honor us with your return visit. If not, we hope that you will consider staying at one of the many Hilton Worldwide Hotels
