“A Great Resort that keeps me coming back”
Reviewed April 6, 2011

I recently went to Puerto Rico with my husband and young children (ages 9 and 6). We were going to be in Puerto Rico for only 5 days, and just HAD to stay at the Embassy Suites in Dorado, again! Our prior stay was short and sweet, and we vowed to come back again. The drive from San Juan airport to Dorado is about 30 - 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions. There is a $1.00 toll if you take route 22 west to Dorado.
The resort is located in the beautiful town of Dorado, within a gated community. Once you approach the security gate, they verify your purpose in entering the private community. Once passed the security gate, you drive through the beautiful golf course. You have the option to choose valet ($18 daily) or self parking ($10daily). The parking garage is located just steps from the hotel main entrance. There's a casino located between the hotel and parking garage.

Our check in was a little slow due to the fact that the phones were constantly ringing and only one person working the front desk. They validate your parking ticket on the first day for your entire stay, so that you can come and go as you please for the one $10 per day parking fee.

The Resort is very clean, and well maintained. Our room was on the second floor, and even though we were just above ground level, we had a great partial view of the ocean. Our room was very clean and well lit. We had only one king size bed, and a pull out sofa bed for the kids. There are two flat screen TVs in the suite, one mini refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave.

On our first night, we drove to a town called Aguadilla which is located on the west end of the island, and its about a 2 hour drive with a handful of tolls, none being more than about $1.00

On our second day, we enjoyed the amenities of the resort, which included the 3 pools, kids play area and water sports. The pool was very clean, and well maintained. It is a heated pool which made it even better!!! The resort gives all there guest tickets for two free water bottles per day for the entire stay. You also get a daily bracelet that you must wear to identify you as a guest of the hotel while using the pool. My husband rented a small padel boat for $15 (30 minutes) which is enough time. The beach is very clean, and with no waves (safe for kids)

Every night the 5:30pm - 7:30pm, the resort holds a managers reception in which you can get free drinks and snacks for everyone. Drinks include a variety of liquor and beer. The snacks include popcorn and tortilla chips with salsa. Drinks are unlimited during this two hour reception. We always tipped the bartender as a nice gesture.

During our stay we had a terrible rainstorm sweep over Dorado, causing a lot of flooding which affected the resort pool and laundry facilty in the lower level. As a result, the pool was shut down from Tuesday night til about Friday afternoon. The Resort arranged FREE trolley tours of Dorado for those guest that were inconvenienced.

We dined at the hotel restaurant on the night of the heavy rainstorm, because of the severe local flooding conditons. I have to admit, that I a little disappointed with our waiter because of the poor service we received and the over priced food.

There's a local restaurant within walking or driving distance of the resort which sells PuertoRican cuisine that is very delicious, and very inexpensive. We dined there on our last trip to Dorado and so we had to go again during this trip.

Breakfast was excellent throughout our stay, a wide selection of choices and omelletes made to order.

Check out process was quick and easy.
You pay the Resort fee and any room charges incurred during your stay.

My teen and tweens liked that our room was actually 2 rooms - felt like more space. Incredible view of the ocean. The free cook-to-order breakfast was a huge hit and they loved the pool cafe & golf course. The first manager's reception was terrific - chips & salsa but after that they served cheap Costco type pretzel mix. We did not find the beach that enticing - small and rough but nice to look at. Love the local crafts sold in the lobby. The gym is gorgeous and clean, the staff is wonderful and the hotel restaurant is expensive but authentic and delish. Dinner at their new Japanese restaurant was entertaining and food was good but service and sushi need work. The location is remote so you need a car or plan to spend big bucks on cabs. A small town area is within walking distance where you will find Baskin Robbins, CVS, Walgreens and Martin's mafungo. They just opened a casino **We were guests of this hotel**

My daughter and I went for a few days during her college break. The hotel is beautiful and the staff great. The general manager, Marisol Colon was extremely helpful. We wanted to go scuba diving and she had one of her staff Eddie Rivera arrange this for us. They really went out of their way. The hotel is not convenient to San Juan so we rented a car to use to and from the airport and for local driving. The traffic into San Juan is crazy and we didn't want to deal with it. Now if you are interested in scuba diving this isn't the hotel to stay at. I did not realize this at the time but it is a real trek to go. It took 2 1/2 hours each way to get to the dive boat. The hotel is wonderful for a relaxing stay at the beach but not well located for other options. Breakfasts are great and the happy hours excellent.

This was a wonderful place to stay! The staff were awesome. The pool is great and so was the beach. Not as pretty as most PR beaches, but still nice to get in the warm water. The front desk was very helpful with directions and reccommendations to restaurants and local places. I wish the location was a little closer to Fajardo, but Dorado was a wonderful town.

We transferred to the Dorado Embassy Suites after a disappointing stay at another hotel and the Embassy Suites rescued our vacation. The rooms are clean an spacious and the property has a beautiful three tiered pool, kids pool, kids play area and beach access. This property lived up to traditional Embassy Suites standards. While encompassed in its own little golf resort and casino area, there are numerous restaurants (fast food, sports bar and nicer restaurants) less than a 5 minute drive from the property. Downtown Dorado is a neat little town. I would also recommend a nicer restaurant called Morena, which is a nicer restaurant located within a 5 or so minute drive from the hotel. The only downside is that it is set so far back from "the main drag" that you can't really walk to any of these restaurants/things to do - it would be a rather lengthy walk.

Dear "Beautiful Hotel" Guest:

I am so sorry for your experience at our sister Hotel as I can ensure you that it must have been an isolated issue that brought you to us.

Thank you so much for your kind words regarding your stay with us as it makes me very proud of our team. The fact that we exceeded your customer service expectations makes my day.

We are working on the possibility of the Mayor of Dorado assisting us with the Trolley to and from Town in order to make it easier on our guest transporation. Hopefully upon your return to our Resort, we will have this service available as an option.

We look forward to your return and I am at your services.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites for our Feb school vacation. We had a great time and really enjoyed the hotel. It is in a gated community, and seemed very secure. They have a casino that we walked past, but didn’t use. Some reviews complained about parking, but they now have a very nice garage with plenty of spaces.

The 3 things we like best about Embassy Suites are the Suites, the breakfast, and the evening cocktails. All 3 delivered.

The suite was big enough for the 4 of us (couple and 2 teenage sons). The hotel was very clean and in good shape. The balcony was great. Only had 2 chairs, but there was plenty of room for 4 when we brought out 2 of the dinette chairs. The maid service was a little slow, but thet eventually cleaned our room and brought fresh towels every day.

The breakfast was very busy over the Presidents Day weekend. Don’t believe the comments about 45 min waits. The longest we waited for omelets was 20 min and that was only once. After the holiday weekend, the wait was 5-10 min. The breakfast was good (your typical Embassy Suites breakfast). They could have a better selection of fresh fruit. In a tropical location, it was a little disappointing.

The evening reception was fine. Again the lines were long on the holiday weekend (10-15 min). The rest of the week it was 0-5 min. The drinks were good (beer, wine, and medium level liquor). Don’t expect Dom Perignon or single malt scotch. The also have soda and juice. The food was very basic (chips & Salsa and popcorn)

The pool area was great. It has a large general pool and smaller kiddie pool. The main pool is actually 3 sections. It was a little chilly, but refreshing in the 80 deg weather. On the holiday weekend, people stacked out chairs with towels early. After that we made sure to stake out our chairs after breakfast, but is wasn’t much of a problem anymore. There were always plenty of towels available.

The beach was a little disappointing. It is a small man made cove. The water is not good for swimming (corral, seaweed, and urchins), but great for snorkeling. We saw many tropical fish.

I played golf one day. The course is nice, but not world class. It never seemed crowded. I played at 3:00 and played 18 holes with cart for $50. I was lucky to get paired with a local doctor who guided me through the challenging course (lots of water and other hazards).

For the most part the staff was very friendly, and helpful. A few seemed a little grouchy (especially the older man working the towel station at the pool). We would definitely recommend it for a relaxing family vacation. Not much wild nightlife. Dorado seems to be a pretty small town.

Hello to you and your Family:

What an incredible detailed review so thank you very much. You truly demonstrated the experience of your vacation and especially the amenties offered at our Resort. It is so important to enjoy an escape Holiday Vacation with family and I am pleased to read that in general we met and/or exceeded your expectations.

I personally spoke to the employee that works for the concessionaire at the pool area so I apologize for the perception you left with on him based on his interaction with you. I can ensure you that he has worked for sometime now at the pool area and enjoys taking care of our guest so I was even more concern on his not meeting nor exceeding your expectations.

Please feel free to contact me for your next family escape vacation as it would be my pleasure to assist you.

Have a great year. Take care.

Just returned from 6 night stay with our 4 and 2 year old sons. Pool and beach was perfect for the kids and just as enjoyable for adults. Our room had a few small cosmetic flaws, but nothing even close to major enough to warrant a complaint during our stay.

Ocean view room was well worth the extra few dollars, best bet is to ask for a high floor (we were on 6 of 7) for the best views. Could hear the music from the lounge on Friday & Saturday night, but it stopped by 11:00 and didn't bother the sleep of the kids on the pullout in the least.

Parking was no problem in the hotel's new parking garage and the free breakfast and happy hour were both great bonuses. Breakfast is definitely busy as the morning goes on, but we never experienced a lack of food or service.

Both the pool and beach were much more crowded on the weekend and it did look like both were being used by some non-hotel guests. However, weekdays were quiet and very enjoyable, which made the weekend crowd much less of an issue.
