“Very Good Seafood!”
Reviewed January 18, 2012

We like the place a lot, should be top 5 in this town of Dorado. Fish and lobster were excellent, very fresh. Needs to work on the flavor, but it can't go wrong when it is fresh like that. Wait staff are nice but lack of knowledge. Is the place to go if you want fresh fish.

“Don't even bother...”
Reviewed December 25, 2011

Located on a shady backstreet, El Capitan featured mediocre food at mediocre prices in a restaurant that reeked of dead fish. All this, however, was not enough to make me go on trip advisor - the atrocious service put me over the top. The manager not only refused to take a poorly prepared dish off of the bill, she even attempted to charge for that dish's replacement! Skip this place and give your business to someone that will appreciate your business, treat you right, and give you better quality food!

“Horrible Halibut and worse treatment of customer”
Reviewed December 25, 2011

We chose this restaurant in the Dorado area of Puerto Rico based on strong reviews in Trip Advisor. We stayed briefly in Puerto Rico before leaving on a cruise.
We made a reservation through our credit card, though it was not on their preferred program. We went with a large group of 17 people and it was Christmas Day, night.

The appearance from outside was concerning, as we were dropped off there by a taxi. Surely had a local looking appearance (like a local dive) - that did not reassure us. The stale fishy smell mixed with disinfectant, that struck us as we entered, also did not add to our expectations. We were seated promptly - there was only one other table taken in the restaurant.

I will jump to the chase about why were most disappointed- my wife ordered the Halibut which is a $27 item. She requested it plain, grilled with no seasoning. After her first bite she stated that it tasted "horrible- fishy, salty and unfresh". The waiter removed the dish and took an order for another type of food. When the bill came, she was charged for BOTH the halibut and the replacement item. The waiter never mentioned that we would be billed for the fish despite my wife's complete dissatisfaction. When we mentioned this to the waiter, the owner came up to us and stated that she and her daughter tasted the fish and thought it was "fine"-- therefore she refused to take the charge for the halibut off the check. This was the first restaurant, in any country we have been, that insisted on charging for food that we thought tasted terrible. The woman who was reportedly the owner had a confrontational attitude and the neighborhood had a scary feeling, so we paid for both items despite being dumbfounded by a highly touted restaurant on tripadvisor breaking the fundamental rule of business, that the customer(particularly one who has directed a group of 17 people to your restaurant) is always right.

This was after an hour wait between ordering and seeing any food besides the unheated garlic bread- again we were the only group in the restaurant. The entrees were brought out with a few minutes between each couple of plates, causing some in our group to nearly finish before others were served.

Would never return or recommend this restaurant to our friends or family. It was a disappointment from reviews we had read- felt completely mislead.

“the freshest seafood in town”
Reviewed November 28, 2011

this place is awesome. if you're staying in Dorado, you must go here. everything they serve is fresh (and you would think this is the case all over, but it's not .... look at my Blue Marlin restaurant review). i had the lobster stuffed with shrimp and other seafood, and it was amazing!! it's in the middle of Dorado (on a street that runs parallel to the main street in town) so it's a little hard to find, but well worth it. trust me, if you're staying in the Dorado area and want seafood, this is the ONLY place to go. I was just there for a week and learned this the hard way but going everywhere else first. my only regret is that i wish i found this place the first day i arrived.
