As locals, we enjoy coming to this restaurant year after year. We ALWAYS have the teriyaki calamari as appetizer, a couple of Sapporo and about three rolls of sushi, we've tasted everything on the menu -except for meat- and we've always been treated exceptionally by their staff. *personally the miso soup is not of my liking, too salty* but everything is overall awesome. Will keep going and recommending

I ate here and had wonderful service and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. The options on the menu were unique but too expensive for what they were.

It was my first time at Bonsai's new location, on De Diego Street just off De Diego Square. It's been several years since my last visit to the old place so I cannot compare plus I'm not necessarily a sushi expert so here goes. My selection was, in my opinion, very good. Had California and Veggie rolls plus a special "criollo" inspired roll which had eight, six and eight pieces, respectively. I also had Miso soup and an oriental salad. I sat on the bar and although the waitresses were busy serving tables I was attended to promptly. The decor is funky and for a Wednesday night in sleepy downtown Mayagüez the place was full. No major complaints at all.

Tipical Japanese food, including Sashimi, Sushi and even a Tepanyaki Table. Food is excellente. Service is fairly good. They moved now to a bigger place, haven't been there.

The restaurant has moved to a new location. But what a disillusion. Despite the new place being larger, interior decoration has changed from a modest but sleek modern minimalism in white tones and shades in its prior locale, to a vulgar and kitsch, strident and unnerving bright red dominant theme with bad quality wall graphics. And worse. Owner seems to believe that a constant upbeat background music makes the place an in place for the young yuppies, scarcely abundant in a decayed town as Mayagüez. Furthermore, ambiance now feels like a cheap Star Cream Chinese joint with the same boring, unchanged menu, except that current food preparation continues downhill in its quality and freshness. But beware, criollo sushi rolls such as "beef with ripe plantains", which can revolt any experieced Sushi's consumer stomach, are treated as a fabulous item and has a steep price attached to it. In short, despite a change in space and design, this sushi stand is still a glorified and overpriced joint not worth a sushi lover's visit.
