“Ideal before and after cruise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2009

We stayed here for one night before our cruise and also for one night after our cruise and found it perfect for that purpose. The deciding factor in choosing it was their ability to put our entire family of five in one room, saving us the cost of a second room. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff was friendly, the pool was cool and refreshing, if not a little small, and the location is ideal, near the beach and a huge selection of restaurants. Our only issue was that on our pre-cruise night, the air conditioner shut itself off during the middle of the night and we all slept fitfully after that. Our second stay, we figured out how to work the A/C and all was well. If you're a family traveling with luggage, plan on a $20-$25 taxi fare from the airport and a similar fare to the cruise terminals. I wouldn't make this hotel the centerpiece of a long stay in San Juan, but for a couple of nights with a family of five, it was ideal.

This hotel was in a great location in Condado. It was not on the beach but the walk was very short. We were traveling with 6 people and wanted an affordable stay in Condado. We were able to get a room here with all 6 in one room (2 double beds and a pull out sofa). The room was small but nice, with it's own patio and flat screen TV. The bathroom wasn't the greatest, with terrible water pressure, which seems to be an issue all over the island. Overall, the hotel was pleasant and very quiet. Two things we were a bit upset by : First, the hotel advertises a pool, one reason we chose it. During our stay the pool was out of service, and in fact, was not even filled with water! Second, there is no parking to speak of. You can park at a nearby lot for $10 a night, but it's a strange valet situation. Since we had a rental car we were a little leary of leaving our keys, but we had no choice and it turned out fine after all. Beware of the free breakfast since you have to walk to a nearby cafe and you get approx 3 oz. coffee and an empanadilla. Overall though, it was a nice place and we'd stay again!

Booked Le Consulat as a last-minute option based on Trip Advisor reviews. The good: lower price than nearby hotels, one block away from bus route that takes you to old San Juan; friendly staff; Clean white duvet covers. Free wireless internet was the major perk.

The bad: There was very little water pressure, I had a hard time even getting all the shampoo out of my hair. The water that was there was either luke warm or cold, temperature is supposed to be controlled by a guage located under the sink - the system clearly does not work correctly. The walls are paper-thin and we could hear every last noise in the hallway, as well as ringing telephones in neighboring rooms. The air conditioner worked very well on full strength, but was very noisy and did not work well if you didn't want it on full blast. Only one chair in our room, meaning that one of us had to sit on the bed if we wanted to spend time in our room while planning our day. The bathroom and hallways are looking very frayed around the edges, and also looked like they could use a good scrub.

I wouldn't stay here again unless I had to to save money - in the end, it wasn't worth the $50 we saved by not staying in a nicer hotel closer to or in old San Juan (if that is your destination)/

We flew into San Juan a day before our cruise left and stayed here. We absolutely loved it! It is not the Ritz, but has everything you need and is very clean. We took a taxi from the airport for $19 to get here. We were expecting to have to leave our luggage and wait for a room (we arrived @ 11am), but they have a room available. The room was very modern and clean. It also had a very large private patio attached to our room. The hotel price includes breakfast @ Pelayo, which is just a block or so down the road. Some reviews did not like the breakfast, but we LOVED it!!! You choose a pastry and a drink, I chose a cinnamon roll and coffee (which was actually a latte). It was so good, wish we discovered this restaurant around lunch/dinner the day before. There is also a Walgreens nearby we frequented to get sodas to take on the boat. The beach is only one block away, we just went on the side of the La Concha Hotel. We caught the local bus in front of the La Concha which took us to Old San Juan, only about 15 min. away. The bus was only 50cents much more affordable than taxi prices. All and all though it was a great bargin, clean, central location, we definitely would stay again.

My wife and I checked in after taking a taxi from the airport, which is a set 15$ plus a dollar per bag. From that moment on the staff really helped us with all of our needs. All of the restaurants that were recommended were superb. For the location and price there is no match. I would never pay the prices of some of the larger "resort" hotels. You will be glad you did. The staff is very one on one. They insisted on sorting out a problem we had with a kayaking tour. They resolved the problem in less than five minutes. We would love to travel back to the island. If we get the chance for we will definitely book again.

Le Consulat was very cute and humbling. The hotel is centrical to EVERYTHING: a bus ride or cab drive to Viejo San Juan (Old San Juan), all of the lively clubs, restaurants and SHOPPING. Maria and the staff were great! We were upgraded to a room with our own patio, which was so darling. Staying in LE CONSULAT allowed me to blend in with the locals, more so than with the tourists. Everyone was so friendly and i really felt the true boricua experience. I recommend this hotel for young 20 something travellers.

If you want a small intimate feel to a hotel, and not the sterile cookie cutter approach, then Le Consulat might be the one for you. I opted to stay there this week right after I had surgery on my elbow and my stay was quite pleasant. The staff at the front desk was helpful and pleasant. My room, #108, right next to the pool, was a suite with a couch and chairs, as well as two queen sized comfortable beds. The little patio outside the room was private and cute. I loved the location, as we were right in the Condado, among all the happenings of the larger hotels, on a busline, important if you want an inexpensive ($.75) way to get around, and close to restaurants and 24/7 Walgreen's. The area is safe, well lit, and neither my adult daughter (29) nor I (63) were afraid walking real early in the morning nor after 10pm at night. The voucher given for breakfast, a three minute walk away at a local bakery/restaurant, was quite nice. You had your choice of yummy spiced oatmeal, Danish pastries, local toasted bread, and a choice of coffee, hot chocolate, bottled water, or juice. We returned there in the evening for sandwiches........try the Media Noche, or if you are super hungry, the Cubano. We had both and we enjoyed them very much.
