Yamasaki is on the same block as the Condado Plaza Hotel on the far tip of the Condado District in San Juan. If you're staying at the Condado it may seem like a convenient place for dinner -- but don't bother. The prices rival the overpriced hotel fare and don't even manage to offer a better product.
On the one hand, the location is pretty cute and set a little off the street. The dining room is small and pretty well decorated, featuring an attractive sushi bar as well as a tall goldfish tank.
On the other, the food sampled was pretty bad -- overcooked, over-sauced, poorly seasoned, and the vegetables in the fried rice had been frozen. Plan on spending about $15-30 for a not particularly filling entree you probably won't want to finish.
On this particular night, the restaurant was nearly empty yet the service was nearly non-existent. We may have had two waitresses or maybe the hostess took our order -- we weren't sure. Our waitress brought our starters on a tray, slowly set down our silverware, which was covered in soy sauce, got the table dirty, didn't notice our incredulous looks, and only got the hint when she realized her own hands were dirty that she should replace the silverware. We watched our starters sit on an empty table for several minutes while our waitress apparently forgot about us before the hostess brought them to us, followed by utensils several minutes later.
Did I mention that they were almost empty at this point? The service continued to be poor and disinterested throughout our meal. Spend your time and your time and your money elsewhere.
