“Jinya's Japanese Restaurant is consistently delicious and Outstanding!!!”
Reviewed July 31, 2011

I've been a patron and friend of Jinya's for sixteen years, across three different restaurants. He has a professional following because he is truly an Culinary Artist. The cevicheis unique and outstanding, the portions generous and savory. This is THE sushi restaurant to visit. Reservations are suggested.

“The worst all around.”
Reviewed July 31, 2011

I just left the restaurant and I have never been less satisfied. The soroundings are ugly, the restaurant looks like a chinese, fast food. The prices are way to high and the service does not help, the waiter explained the menu well but didnt help in anything else, wasnt atentive. I love to try new places every weekend, I have never waisted so much money to leave hungry. I very rarely say bad things about restaurants but this one didn't give anything good to say. Sorry skip this one.

“Creatively original, good quality products and nonpretentious”
Reviewed January 2, 2011

Jinya's is my top sushi restaurant in Puerto Rico and is at the 5% of all the sushi restaurants that I have tried. I have eaten at a few dozen excellent sushi restaurants at the west coast of the United States which, because of the high population of asian people uses to have some of the best asian restaurants in that country.
Make sure to also try to kitchen dishes and the soups. Also, the Ceviche (which is not a real ceviche but a marinated seafood mix) is some of the best dishes that I have tried anywere (it is in the appetisers section of the menu).

I can only attribute the bad reviews here to competitors. Some of them exceed any credible criticism.

“If the food is what's most important to you this is your #1 choice”
Reviewed December 28, 2010

Some background: the owner was the former sushi chef at one of the first sushi establishments in San Juan, He opened his own place with his wife. This is why it is small, simple and out of the way. He prepares the dishes himself. and he is great at what he does. In addition to a wide variety of excellent rolls Jinya's offers two things that are pretty unique in Puerto Rico, the appetizers with Pegao (the crunchy part on the bottom of pot of cooked rice and excelent Crab Rangoon, it is the only Crab Rangoon I have been able to find in Puerto Rico, which is crunchy, and with generous portions of crab vs. heapings of scallions. This is Puerto Rico's best quality sushi, hence the 5, If you are comparing vs. big cities, or take into account the decor, size, and location it would be a 4. One opportunity is for them to introduce 1/2 rolls as Akai in Plaza suchville has done so you can sample more rolls.

“A different approach to sushi”
Reviewed November 30, 2010

I'm a local and I eat here very often. Open for lunch, it usually gets really crowded, but thanks to the valet parking, there's room for everyone. When eating here, make sure to try th. Seafood salad (a fresh mix of sashimi cuts, cuccumbers and spicy mayo. Get the sauce on the side, it's very heavy). Also the "pegao" which is a fusion between japanese and creole food.
It's a small restaurant so, reserve in advance o don't get there too hungry so you won't get mad while you wait for a table.
