“Pretty solid food and bakery”
Reviewed May 16, 2014

This Cuban/Puerto Rican bakery/cafe is more famous after the visit of president Obama (will mentioned ups and down later). Many educated locals also hang out here, sipping coffe, breakfast and reading newspaper. There are two sections: you can order warm food (soup, sandwishes) and other section has sweat and bakery.

Good:
- I think breakfast special (came with a deal, sandwish and beer for <$8), hot sandwishes and last but my favorite, Sancocho. Sancocho is a stew of chicken, beef mixed with potatoes, vege and corn. Go for "big one/Grande." Sandwishes are big and 2 order could share 3-4 people if you are looking for a light lunch or want to try more in this place. You can have different "pork" products from different Anatomic parts (e.g. shoulder), beef, chicken, fish.
- Photo opportunity to sit at the table, President sat during his visit a few years back.

Things could improve/ok:
- English description available for sandwishes only. No description for soup (although they sell at least 6 different ones). I did not know until I went home and check their website that they also sell "tapas." So bad, I was there twice without knowing.
- If you want milk in coffee, there is extra charge, as much as your coffee price.
- Bakery section is ok, a bit too sweat for me but I like warm food better.
- Per TA reviewers, who have been to this place pre-Obama visit, noted significant price hike due to increased popularity. Yeah, price is now at par with the mainland US. At least, I am still happy to pay the price to have decent food. You will see more ripped off price once you are out of San Juan.

“Bad breakfast”
Reviewed May 13, 2014 via mobile

Kasalta has a long tradition and is very famous. Despite being local and a San Juan resident, went for the first time last month for breakfast and the truth is that there is nothing special about this place, is expensive (paid $35 for two coffees, two sandwiches and an orange juice) and the quality and flavor of the food is not good at all. Coffee was bad (we saw the guy pouring water in it). Prosciutto sandwich was just prosciutto and bread and the Cuban sandwich had just some pork and jam. I've been to Spain and this definitely was not as good as Spanish food. Try to go anywhere else!

“Great Place!! Good Food!!”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

I was invited for dinner at Kasalta by my uncle and his family...this was my first visit to this bakery in almost 20 years and I can report this place is very good...the atmosphere, the service and the food are great...We arrived and our table was reserved so we didn't wait at all...We ordered few bottles of wine along with some appetizers then proceed with main course..I try the Grilled Chicken Breast with Arroz Mamposteao and Tostones(Plantains) and was delicious...the servers were all over our table at all times making sure we didn't need anything...Overall I really enjoyed this placed and I recommended if you are in the Ocean Park / Isla Verde Area.

“Enjoying a Lefend”
Reviewed May 3, 2014

Stopped in for early supper on a Sunday night. Had sandwiches, potato salad and cokes. I must eat gluten free and ordered mine with no bread. It was still tasty. Their variety of pastries and desserts was staggering. Mostly locals there. For all I had heard and seen about this place, it is a very unassuming place in a very unremarkable location.
