“The Obama effect...!”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

After president Obama had a "medianoche" (the brother of the Cuban sandwich) at the place they went crazy with their prices. The quality also has changed from acceptable to mediocre. Now is just a hang out for Cuban exiles and rich Condado residents that chat about Castro and local business deals.

“Nice Local Eatery”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

Kasalta is located just outside of the Ocean Park neighborhood just a few blocks from the beach and our hotel. Both times we visited it was loud and busy with scores of happy locals. It is a combination bakery, deli, liquor store and hot foods made to order walk up style. As mentioned in prior reviews the menu and staff are exclusively Spanish, which made our selections rather slow much to their consternation. But, all the staff were patient and the locals helpful with our limited language. The bakery is surrounded with windows making it a cheery place to dine. Hours are 6am-10pm.

The bakery items were beautifully displayed in glass cases...pastries, cakes, breads, meat pies...so unique and colorful. Huge chunks of beef and hams hang from the ceiling in the deli section above cases of sliced meats, cheeses, pastas and salads. Liquor bottles filled the lighted shelving behind the counters. And at the end a walk up counter with grill for ordering with a display case of hot foods for eat in or take out. Coffee is delicious!

There is a table where Obama visited that is well labeled with a plaque on it and above it. Interesting enough, both times this was one of the few tables available! LOL We found out later that the locals don't take too kindly to American politics!

Anyway, would highly recommend Kasalta for especially breakfast, lunch or dinner. Also would make a great stop for picnic supplies. Super clean, great selection of food and the pastries are to die for! Just brush up on your Spanish! LOL

“Love this place.”
Reviewed October 1, 2013 via mobile

If you have a chance to sit down and order something from their restaurant, order the Mero (Grouper) which comes as a stew with beans. Excellent! But first treat yourself to some toasted pieces of bread with honey and Delice de Bourgnone cheese. It's pricey but well worth it. Also try their sweet ham with a nice glass of wine. Place is great for breakfast too!!

“Many choices, great bakery”
Reviewed September 23, 2013 via mobile

If you're driving, be prepared for an insane parking lot. BUT the food inside is worth it. Great place for breakfast or a pastry, they also have deli and cheese choices. Seemed to be many locals there. definitely recommended.
