If you truly want outstanding service and delicious food in a beautiful restaurant then you must dine at Marmalade. I recommend the tasting menu, the 5 or 6 course with the wine pairing, because you are able to sample more of the dishes. One of my favorites was the Tiny White Bean Soup with scallions, black truffle oil & pancetta “dust”. Perfection!

There are 2 EXCELLENT dining experiences in the Caribbean; Marmalade is one (the other being Old Stone Farm House in St. Thomas). If you're a food connoisseur, you can not miss this place... it actually IS that simple. Hands-on owner/chef, edgy decor, attentive waitstaff, and great locale prime the environment for dinner, but its the food and wine pairing which sets it apart. I'm not going to isolate the "best" menu choices, but understand that WHATEVER you choose will be fantastic. The wine pours are generous, so you can do more than just taste it, you can ENJOY it. This was our second visit to Marmalade and we can't wait to go back! One (late) suggestion: BE ADVENTUROUS, if you've ever wanted to try something, do it here. Only problem: it might not be that good elsewhere, so keep that in mind :-) Good luck and bon appetite!

Learned of this restaurant from Trip Advisor, and so glad we tried it! The most incredible food!!
Must haves are...White Bean Soup, Lobster Risotto, Black Truffle Pappardelle, and the Beef Tenderloin (so tender a knife is not necessary). In terms of portion size, we both had the soup and shared one order of the remaining 3 items listed above and could not finish (which made me sad because it was so good)! This is a foodie gem in Old San Juan and one of the best meals we have ever had (including French Laundry in Napa). If you order a la carte as we did, the bill is reasonable given the quality and quantity of the food.
Reservations are a must and need to be made as far in advance as possible (Open Table).

The food was not only delicious, but fun and creative. The decor is great and original. The owner/head chef came out and spoke with the diners. His conversation with us went well past the perfunctory and he spoke not only of his food, but made recommendations of other places to eat in San Juan, then actually introduced us to a waiter from another restaurant who was sitting near us. The entire family of three who own and run this special restaurant were highly visible and their lovely young daughter (elementary school age) was remarking quite knowledgeably on the food and its preparation! This will definitely be a place to which we will return on our future visits to San Juan!

This place was exceptional. Everything was a pleasure, and not what you'd expect... easily miss-able if you'd just walk by, but wonderful on the inside. Everything on the tasting menu was so delicious. by far the best food I had while in San Juan, and definitely worth a visit on your trip! The only reason I four-starred it was because of the service, but my experience seems to be unique as literally all the tables around us seemed to be getting much better service by more attentive waiters than ours :/ ...but, the food was beyond worth it, definitely check it out, you won't regret it!
