“No Frills Place That Brings Childhood Memories”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

On my final night in San Juan, my girlfriend and I wanted to just go out and have a casual night out. So, she suggested we go to El Hamburger. The restaurant is a burger joint near town, and it is very busy, with lot of couples and families coming.

Although I've had better burgers in many places, the draw here is no so much the food, but just a very casual, local place to sit down, eat, drink, and talk. While fast food restaurants are abundant everywhere, sometimes these places the corporations push on us can be a bit tiring. El Hamburger is neither fancy nor pretentious at all, and their burgers are okay, not spectacular, but something still makes you enjoy eating a meal there. I sense and feel it's having the choice to be not only casual and unapologetically be yourself but also not part of what everyone else does.

The place is covered, but with no windows, just bars. However, that night, around 10 p.m., it was very breezy, and we loved feeling the breeze that blew through there. The waiter who served us was extremely kind and helpful, and he offered us service with a smile.

We ordered a lot of food: two burgers, a hot dog, three orders of fries, an order of onion rings, a Corona, a passion fruit juice, and two cups of sangria. The fries are not bad, being nice and crispy, and the onion rings were okay. The burgers were okay, too, not spectacular. However, we still enjoyed just eating there. For all of those things, we paid $30. So, if you just want to have burgers, dogs, and beer, etc., it's not a bad place to go. If I wanted a burger to go on the run, I'd probably go to one of the big burger places, but to hang out, drink, and talk, I prefer this place.

Certainly, I would go back to this little place for a late night meal of burgers, fries, and sangria. That's what it is, a late night spot. It reminds me of my childhood when we went to the local burger joints, not Mc Donald's, Wendy's, and Burger King, etc.

“Best Burgers in the island...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

This place is basically open 24hrs, and is always full of cool people. They serve the greatest "homemade" burgers around. The view in front to the ocean is amazing, great prices too.

“Best beach side low key place away from touristy Old San Juan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013 via mobile

El Hamburger is a busy burger shack that has a great view of the coast. Hamburgers can come topped with blue cheese, bacon, Swiss, cheddar or American cheese. They also have fries and onion rings. Not a huge selection but that means they do what they have just right! Great place to start or end your day, as its about 2 miles outside of Old San Juan. If you're up for it, its about a 40 minute walk, but all on the sidewalk next to the coast.

“Best burger ever-seriously”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2013

We stumbled upon this place walking to Playa Escambron. It appears to be a dive but man, these are the best burgers ever. And unlike every other restaurant in San Juan it's very reasonably priced. Very simple service and presentation. It overlooks the water crashing on the shore.
