“50th Birthday Vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

i took by husband for his 50th birthday and we had such a great time. The people are friendly, the food is amazing. Did not tried the hotel food because it was expensive. Instead we ate at this place called Orozco's, we had breakfast everyday at this place, the coffee is really good and the food is very inexpensive. We had one small incident with Dinner but the owner took care of it right away took it off the bill and gave us 20% discount. Also the hotel was very clean and the people were very attentive and helpful. We will come back. Thank you.

We spent the july 4th weekend at La Concha resort and had a great time. Location was great, near great bars as well as great shopping. the grounds of the hotel was always clean and well maintained through out the day. we did have an issue with the amount of time it took to be served at the beach. to us this was more a lack of staffing issue than people not doing their jobs, The staff was excellent and went out of their way to take care of your every need. our room was very spacious and clean, no issues with house cleaning. the pools are on the small side but are clean as well. at night the main bar is a really cool place to hangout eat and have drinks, there's a DJ playing great music all night or you can go across the street from the resort for drinks at a local bar. there's plenty of police officers in the area so you never really felt unsafe at any point. we will def go back to La Concha sooner than later for more fun in the sun.
if anyone has any questions feel free to email.

We just got home last night from La Concha Resort in San Juan, and I wanted to write this review now while I am still in the "zone"...

La Concha is a very short ride from the airport. We did not rent a car. Taxi from airport to resort was $15 plus $1 per piece for luggage, plus tip. So depending on how many pieces of luggage you have, for around $20 you are at the hotel.

Immediately upon arrival you are welcomed with open arms. Jose is there to greet you by name, get your luggage, show you to check-in, and tag your bags for delivery to your room. We reserved a junior oceanview suite, but were upgraded to a tower suite when they learned that it was my husband's birthday. We arrived at 2pm which is well before check-in, but our room was ready and we went directly up to our suite on the 4th floor. Note: you want to be on the 4th floor or higher in the tower suites as the lobby is "party palace" in the evenings and unless you are one of the party people at the bar, the music will definitely keep you awake. I would also recommend an ocean view as opposed to city view. It is much quieter, and you can hear the waves hitting the shore as you are falling asleep.

The suite was great! Small kitchenette with full fridge, cook-top, microwave, sink and seating. Dining in the resort is pricey and the suite is a perfect alternative to dining out every evening. You can find everything you need at a reasonable price by walking a block or two down the street in either direction of LaConcha's entrance.

Old San Juan was a short cab ride away, and we went early in the morning (9am) to beat the heat. Walked through the very scenic streets, took some great photos, had lunch in Yeyo's, a local joint that turned out to be surprisingly good! Next door is the Blessed Cafe, a Reggae place that has a very laid back vibe. We cooled off there with a couple of Red Stripes after making our way through the fort Castillo de san Cristobal.

We took the El Yunque Rainforest Tour with E&B Tours. Joey was the best tour guide ever! The 29,000-acre rainforest is something to see, however I was mildly disappointed that it was more "touristy" than I expected. But still something to see.

Ok, so now to the REAL reason that my husband and I LOVE this place. It's the PEOPLE! The customer service is off the charts! We had trouble with the phone in our room on the first day, and someone was there to take care of it immediately. The concierge desk was more than helpful. Whoever you connect with that works there is completely professional, friendly, helpful, and couldn't do enough to make your stay perfect.

The lobby bar is where we spent a lot of time ; ) and I want to make sure that Jonathan, Nicholas and Emily are all recognized for their amazing service! Jonathan makes the BEST Manhattans on the island, and is one of the most personable bartenders I've ever encountered. He is an incredible young man that is going places!!! Nicholas was one of the fastest-moving bartenders I have ever seen outside of NYC, and Emily was the most attentive waitress ever! (Good luck with the baby Emily!) It's the people and their amazing attention to your needs that makes this place one to remember. I also want to mention Julian who left for military service on Saturday. He delivered our bags to our room when we first arrived and was incredibly helpful with tips on where to eat and what to see. Good luck Julian!

Another note: There is a restaurant down the street called diParma Trattoria. We ate there one evening and the food was delicious! Harry was our waiter and he was incredible! So professional, friendly, and courteous! diParma is an outdoor trattoria with umbrella tables. It rained the night we were there and it was so much fun to eat our dinner while the rain came down overhead. We were very pleasantly surprised with the food. Upscale Italian right on the street! Terrific...

This is certainly the LONGEST review I've written so far. But, felt it was warranted for sure!
Go to LaConcha, you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Best rooms are in the suite tower. The higher the better.

This resort has everything you would need including a very nice beach, beautiful pools, great restaurants and bars and a casino. All of the staff were very friendly also. The only thing keeping it from being perfect is the VERY loud noises (bands, yelling) coming from the bars, etc on the street. It doesn't end at 1 or 2 am, but 5:30 am! So, if you go there, do not book a city view room. A beach view should be ok. It is close to the airport and Old San Juan and within walking distance of several good restaurants.

Room Tip: Rooms on the beach side are quieter. Rooms on the street side and others near the bar are extremely...

Overall the hotel is very nice, walking in to the lobby is beautiful, front desk service has great. The rooms are a little bland, bathrooms could be redone but overall pretty clean and nice. One Friday of our stay two of the elevators went down causing us to walk to 7 flights up steps. Pool side service was slow but Manuel did his best!

Room Tip: Ash for the ocean view!

La Concha turned out to be better than we expected, the view, the restaurants and the wonderful people who served us. The check-in was exceptionally informative. Felix at curb-side was such a delight, always with the best sparkling attitude we have ever experienced.
The only complaint is that the management had decided not to have more than 1 server on the beach....this was for about 50-100 beach goers daily. Also pool service, other than the towels, was non-existent, again no server at 3 of the 4 pools. As a successful business owner, I can't believe that they would overlook thousands in income to save a few dollars in labor. The inconvienience to us was worth over 1 star on the rating.

Room Tip: The main hotel, all rooms facing the ocean, are fantastic

My wife and I just spent a week at the resort, the place is amazing!

The staff, the food, the drinks and the entire resort are top notch. The staff is always smiling and helpful. The food and drinks are always well done. You get what you pay for, but its well worth it.

This is the only place we will stay in San Juan...

Room Tip: We had a room near the pool, great view of the resort and we could see the ocean through the court y...
