“Great location and luxury stay”

The La Concha is a very nice hotel. We had a king ocean front room that was excellent! On Saturday night, they shot off fireworks on the beach and it was like we had our very own private show! The staff was great. The only time we ate at the hotel was when we first got there while waiting on our room and it was very good, and this was at the bar.

Nice welcome by hotel staff who allowed us a (very) early check in. The concierge also went out of her way to book us on a last-minute tour of El Yunque rainforest, which was much appreciated. Housekeeping could be more meticulous, especially given that much clean up wasn't required in our room. The junior suite had a fantastic ocean view and was spacious and bright. In case it's important to anyone booking a suite to have separate rooms, I'll note that a junior "suite" is one big room, which was not clear to us on booking. The suites with separate rooms have only partial ocean or city views, not full ocean views as a junior suite does. The hotel's location is very good, on a perfect stretch of beach and in walking distance to shopping, restaurants and other hotels with restaurants and night life (similar to Collins Avenue in South Beach). Would stay here again or might try the Conrad, where we went for dinner one night (Pikayo), and seemed a little more chic.

Room Tip: Junior suite is not a "suite" in that it's just one room, but is spacious, bright and...

The La Concha is an newly renovated, very sleek, sexy hotel right in San Juan Puerto Rico. The hotel, hotel amenities, food, and staff was great. The beach is immediately in back of the hotel, which has 3 pools and two jacuzzis.

The only thing I hoped for and would have expected is a bit more of a night life and the hotel bar. It was a bit of dull spot and the DJ played on techno 80's music each night. Very disappointing.

Room Tip: All rooms have some sort of view, but as for a dual view...a view of the ocean and one of the pools.

MMy wife and I along with our family celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary at the La Concha Resort in San Juan and we could not of found a better place. From the Check in person to the cleaning service was Outstanding. Friendly, warm and very accommodating. We stayed in the towers and the rooms were spacious, and exceptionally clean. The restaurants within the hotel were also wonderful. We enjoyed their food, drinks and service. The location of the resort was also great and was within walking distance for all your needs. Walgreens was 2 blocks away and had just about all the you might need during your stay.

At check in time we had a wonderful young woman Mrs Rodrigueiz she was helpful and found us the room we preferred. Of course Hector the front door man was outstanding and no matter what we asked he did his very best to obtain it. Evan an umbrella on our rainy day. You will love Hector’s energetic personality and attentiveness.

For a change of pace for lunch and/or breakfast there was a Ben and Jerry’s right next door to the La Concha. It is one of many pleasant surprises during our stay. Food, service and price were outstanding. Very clean, well kept and with outdoor setting. The owner was there each day and the most pleasant person. Her staff was just as pleasant and accommodating. A must go to place while in that area.

With out a doubt when we return to Puerto Rico we will stay at the La Concha.

I have stayed at various hotels in Condado, on Ashford Avenue over the years and decided to stay at the La Concha a Marriott property. I arrived around 1:30pm and did not get checked into my room until 4:00pm which is quite common with the hotels in the Condado area (past experience).

I stayed 5 nights during the month of June and I had the opportunity to stay in a suite (467) in the Suite Tower and it was comfortable and I had no problems wit the AC. The room was large with a bedroom/terrace and a separate living room / kitchen (including dishes, utensils, stove, refrigerator and pots/pans) . The bathroom only had a shower with one sink. There is also a digital safe in the closet.
The 4th floor also included a community laundry facility and washing machine/ dryers at a cost of $2.00 to use and there was also a machine to purchase detergent/ softener at a cost of $1.00.

Housekeeping was decent and cleaned my room daily by 10:AM. Not all of the staff housekeeping staff speak English but they did try their best to be accommodating. ( A tip goes a long way).

The property has a contemporary flair with a large lobby bar and 4 restaurants including room service. The hotel attracts gay /straight, younger/ older / couples as well as families. ( tours are a must for first time visitors) There is free Wii Fi in the lobby as well as the rooms.

The food is ($$$$) and drinks start at $9.00 ( they also add tax and 15% gratuity to all food and drink orders) so take the opportunity to dine at some of the local restaurants on Ashford Avenue. If your on a budget there is. Subway, Wendy's and Duncan Donut in the immediate area. There is also a Walgreens down the street or even rent a car and explore the Island.

The hotel lobby connects the main hotel and the Tower Suite ( Which may have been an Embassy Suite in the Past). The property has 3 small pools and one was located in the Suite Tower. There is a casino on the property that has tables and slots. The beach is not breath taking at all and the water can be quite rough, so keep an eye on the kids. There are plenty of chairs at the beach and pool(s) and towels are in abundance. There is also gym on the property that overlooks the beach.

Some cons about the hotel include a problem with the elevators. In the Suite Tower there are two elevators and at least 4 times I had to use the staircase because one elevator was out of service.

The pools are very small as well as the lounge area around the pools.

House keeping folks are very nice but they really don't clean the rooms very well. I found strands of long black hair on the bathroom floor, shower and on the carpet in the bedroom.

There were stains on Duovet that were pretty nasty and some of the furniture was chipped and worn out or stained from water.

The TV is on satellite so if you have a cloudy day/ evening don't expect a signal.

There is problem with the room keys. The cards are very sensitive and I had to have them replaced 3 times because they did work and I could not enter my room.

Don't expect a late check out or early check in because they won't honor it.

Overall the hotel is nice and bubbly with friendly people but it just was not for me.

Room Tip: You may want an ocean view room which you will have to pay extra for

Like other reviews there are pros and cons to staying here, I looked around and other than the Ritz this is the best hotel in PR. However, it is more of a typical Marriott or more so reminded me of embassy suites as we were in the suite tower. Rooms are around an atrium just like an embassy suites. The lobby and pool area are very swanky like Miami but that doesn't carry over to other spaces. The suit is nice with a lot of room, but again very 4 star which is fine for us for the week.

Pros: outstanding staff, everyone very nice and accommodating.
4 pools all very clean and nice. Although at least one was closed daily at 3 for a wedding.
Good location near a lot of bars and restaurants, shopping was lacking IMO.
Great place to workout and run.
Nice beach that my kids loved.

Cons:
Very big on big business - conventions and weddings
Elevators, never did both work, huge wait daily
Lack of options for breakfast - go next door to Ben and Jerry's

Things I read here and worried about: noise from bars, never had an issue, very quiet in suite tower. Elevators it was TRUE, they sucked a lot of our time. House keeping was great, room was great.

I would recommend this to all who are used to Hilton or Marriott expecting 4 stars.

Room Tip: High floor if elevators are working.

My name is Gustavo Leon, Managing Editor of the Boston Herald. I do extensive traveling around the world and I rarely write a review. But after having one of my best experiences I felt compelled to do so. The hotel is great, and everybody probably knows that, but unfortunately the weather wasn't the best. Bad luck I guess. As far as I'm concerned, the sun was always out, because Hector Torres made the stay simply perfect. Kudos to him. Whoever is his boss, I hope you know what a great asset you have in such a knowledgeable, friendly employee. Please reward his efforts any way you can. We already made plans for New Years 2013 just because the experience him and Johanna Rosado provided. Patrick Dwyer (suite 317), Blanca Leon (room 518) and the rest of our family can't wait to be back! .... and don't forget to ask Hector for the "Sangría del Rey"!!!!! Thank me later!

Room Tip: Always stay with an ocean view. It's a bit noisy with a street view. Suite 317 has an amazing te...
