I can't say enough good things about La Concha. My husband and two children and I stayed in a junior suite for three days in November, and we were very pleased with everything about the hotel. Our room was lovely, clean lines, and a nice view of the ocean (although we only paid for a city view). There was plenty of room for the four of us, and the kitchenette was a nice, if unused, bonus. The beach is a wonderful place for bodysurfing or walking. The pool was crowded but it was a friendly crowd. The food at La Perla was some of the best I have ever had in my life. Although the hotel caters to a sort of "beautiful people" young crowd, I felt that it was very family friendly. I felt none of the negative energy that a similar property in, say, South Beach, might exude. The breakfast buffet was very good quality- with tropical fruit juice and a designated omelet maker. The staff was gracious. And the neighborhood is excellent for walking around and dining. We were all sad to leave. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in San Juan.

Room Tip: Junior Suites are very spacious.

We went to this hotel during our stay in Puerto Rico. When we arrived around 11am, our room was not ready (check in is usually around 4pm) but they gave us a buzzer and took our luggage while we waited. We dined at the pool and within an hour our room was ready. During our stay, we dined at the pool, bar and italian restaurant and the food was expensive but good. The drinks were delicious. There wasn't much to do around the hotel, there were a few shops in both directions but not much. There was a Walgreens and Starbucks within walking distance. There were two pools, one of which was heated so that was nice. There were also two hot tubs. The hotel provided an ample amount of beach chairs on the sandy area. We didn't see too many kids at the resort and it turned into a 'club-like' atmosphere in the lobby at night. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families with little kids.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, do not get a room that overlooks the pool area. It can be quiet noisy at night. The suites were new and looked a little nice that the regular hotel rooms.

We first visited La Concha in 2010 and then returned in February 2013 to get married with 45 of our closest friends and family. The week couldn't have been more perfect.

PLANNING: We were put in touch with La Concha's catering coordinator Jessica and she helped us narrow down date options, set up room blocks, etc. The hotel provides several great options to hold ceremonies and receptions. They also do a great job with food and stuff, but they dont coordinate every aspect of the event. If you're getting married here we'd highly recommend hiring a wedding coordinator to help with decor, music, photo/videographers, legal stuff, etc. When we finally arrived we went through final details such as selecting the ceremony place (we were given 3 great options), going through the details of the final food and beverage charges, and just generally making sure that we were on the same page as the hotel and vendors with every aspect of the wedding & reception.

LOCATION IS PERFECT: Located a 15 minute taxi ride from San Juan's international airport on a beautiful beach, but not secluded at all. The hotel is in the "La Condado" area which has multitudes of shops, bars, restaurants, etc stretching for about a mile in each direction from the hotel. I personally love the option to go have cheap & authentic local food, and also to have a $5 meal from a Subway, Wendy's, etc from time to time. There's are also things like Walgreen's, barber shops, and other practical stores within a block or two. I hate getting trapped at resorts and being forced to spend $100 on each meal, especially after you get tired of their food. That's not a remote risk at La Concha.

RELAX & FUN: We and our guests had a great time just hanging out in the hotel. There are 3 nice pools and a great oceanside beach lounging area. There are a plenty of cozy areas to suntan or just lounge on nice, comfortable chairs. There's a really nice and open indoor bar. There's a good-sized casino with about a dozen blackjack tables, hundreds of slot machines, and every game you'd expect. Body boarding in the ocean right next to the hotel was also something we did a lot of.

Beyond the hotel grounds, there are a million things to do within walking distance or a 15 minute cab ride. Old San Juan, old forts, an AMAZING caving adventure that picks up from right outside the hotel, a farmer's market right outside the hotel, ziplining, water sports, etc.

CONCLUSION:
All in all this was an absolutely perfect wedding week. We had guests of all ages, personality types, etc and everyone managed to have a blast in the week that they spent at La Concha. Some of our guests had never traveled before, and the experience was non-intimindating since Puerto Rico isn't a foreign country and the resort is close to the airport. There's nothing to "third worldwish" about the drive from the airport to the resort, or in the resort's vacinity. The wedding went off without a hitch, and ended up exceeding both me and my bride's expectations in every way.

Room Tip: Only some rooms have full balconies, but most rooms have ocean views. It shouldn't be terribly difficult to get an ocean view if you ask.

We know well La Concha as we had a few opportunities to eat there, party over the bar area or join a few friends at the hotel beach in the past, in our trips to Puerto Rico (as we leave in London)....but this is the first time we slept in the hotel for a few days and...we organized our rehersal dinner before the official wedding. The experience has been great.

La Concha offers the best vibe in all the San Juan/Condado strip in our opinion: good music, good people, good service in the lobby and at the bars - so the context is great. The catering manager has been incredibly kind and supportive since the first contacts and we have been able to organize in the Ocean pool terrace a fantastic rehersal "aperitivo" and dinner for 80/90 people: magic full moon in the sky, a lechon to eat (local grilled pork), sangria and parcha mojitos (their special drink), various appetizers and local delicatessen. Music up, tables and setting were wondeful, service was elegant and professional. We had an amazing night until 10pm, time when all the guests moved to the internal bar at the lobby to have a few drinks.

We then used one of their suites for two nights. The room had a fantastic ocean view and was big, with a living room and a separate bedroom plus a bathroom with an in-suite shower (no bathtub)...not great, decent size. The room was clean and the quality of sleep was excellent. A small downside was to have the livingroom not facing the ocean but facing the parking on the back. Moreover, sofas and chairs seemed to be a bit old and "used/consumed". Service has been impeccable (room service etc). Breakfast is best in the mezzanine and the choices to pick from are abundant.

Overall very good experience. Again, La Concha is the top spot for design, vibe, people and position. You can't go wrong.

Room Tip: We had a suite ocean view...very good choice. One major living room, one comfortable toilet, a terrace and the bedroom with the view on the beach...quiet. Only downside is a few of the windows on the living room side look at the backyard.

I stayed at La Concha for 4 nights in January on a girls getaway. The oceanview rooms are spacious and clean. The bathrooms are decent, though the shower is open and water seeped out onto the bathroom floor (not a big deal and they give you plenty of towels). It would be nice if the oceanview rooms had a balcony, but they do have a little step-out area. The bed was not as comfortable as I'd like, but tolerable for a 4 night stay.

The hotel has a lounge-vegas-y feel to it. My favorite aspect of this hotel was that the pool water temperature was very warm and that they were open 24/7. The hotel has 2 hot tubs, though one's temperature was so hot it was unbearable!

The beach is ok, but not as nice as most of the caribbean. The ocean on this side of the island is very rough and not great for swimming. Lots of locals surfing/boogy-boarding.

Room service was fast and the food was pretty good. I'd venture out for dinners, though, as San Juan has some great restaurants (try Jose Enrique in Santurce; Raices in Old San Juan).

Have a great time!
