Stayed at la concha from 12/28 -1/6. Rooms are spacious and modern clean on arrival. with a nice kitchenette in room which is great but other than making your bed don't expect a clean room. Room service didn't even clean half used wine/water glasses. Or vacuum Beach service Louis is great Beach is on the small side. Best part of the trip New Years disaster. I called weeks in advance to reserve a table for New Years. They confirmed by email and when we asked for our table on New Years Eve we were not on the list. Had to stand with a bad knee in an overcrowded pool area. We had a reservation at Voga for dinner and were never told there would be a different menu for New Years Eve $90.00 per person. What a rip off. Food was horrible. To sum it up. LaConcha tries to be a 5 star hotel without the proper management and staff to get it done overall the staff tries hard and is very nice but needs help. I would stay again for 200-300. Per night not worth $600 plus resort fee

We stayed at La Concha post cruise for just a night. The good: It is a beautiful property with ample beach access and several pools. and jacuzzis. The lobby is swanky with modern decor and a very cool bar. Victor at the concierge desk was really great and very helpful. the bellmen are jovial, friendly and create a great beginning and ending to your stay.
The mediocre: We ended up in an oddball room that was very small, facing the street. If you went onto the balcony and scooted around the narrow corner, you could technically see the ocean. The jets in our jetted tub didn't work. I called to report it and a repairman came and spent quite a long time in our room working on it and said that he could come back the next day to replace the broken motor. We were checking out the next day so nothing could be done for us. These things would not be such a big deal to me if we were paying 200 dollars a night, but we paid nearly 3 times that. I expected something a little nicer and more attention to detail in the room, given the luxury price of the room.
We ate lunch at the poolside bar. Very good service. The churrasco steak was really delicious. The prices are high. That was expected.
The bad: We got up early to get pool chairs and it's a good thing we were early. When we got down to the pool at 8:30 a.m., nearly every chair had a towel or other personal item draped over it as "saved". In the 3 hours we sat poolside we watched maybe 5-6 people actually come out to claim their chairs and use them. I felt bad for all of the people ready to actually use a chair walking among all of the unoccupied but saved chairs, with nowhere to sit down. They should really have a pool butler monitoring the chairs and allowing a 30 minute grace period for saved, unoccupied spots.
Overall, judging on our room alone, it was not a good value. The room earned 3 stars. The experience of staying at the resort and using the facilities are the basis of our 4 star rating.

I have to preface this by saying that I'm a Four Seasons / Ritz-Carlton kind of guy. This hotel isn't at ALL my cup of tea. It's clean, and tries VERY hard -- probably too hard -- to be "hip", and that's probably its downfall. The entry and lobby, as others have written, are the best part of the hotel. Very cool design; lots of water. The rooms are NOTHING to write home about -- way too much formica and cheap tile for my taste. The food is INSANELY overpriced -- again, Four Seasons prices at Breakfast, and nowhere near worth it. The people are VERY nice -- friendliest I've ever encountered in a Casino, I should add. Service is VERY average, and VERY slow. A couple of other important notes: This is NOT a place to relax. (I'll repeat: This is NOT a relaxing enviornment.) It is insanely loud and frenetic ALL of the time. Music is at ear-shattering levels, everyone is shouting. I want peace and quiet on a vacation -- you'll NEVER find that at La Concha. And, a final, yet important note. BEWARE OF A VERY HIGH RESORT FEE that will be added to your bill. It's 16% on TOP of the room rate and on TOP of taxes. (At a $499 rate, it's nearly $80 additional a night.) They tell you in the fine print, but we don't always read that, do we? It covers virtually NOTHING -- Parking isn't included. Consider yourself warned.

Excellent hotel/resort. Do not even hesitate to stay here. Stayed here the night before our cruise. Two adults and our 12 year old daughter had more than enough room with a Junior suite, make sure you get ocean view. Staff was exceptional, including Felix, who greets you as your taxi drops you off.."Mi Familia". The resort is exceptionally clean and well staffed. Close to restaurants and some shopping. Very safe area with good police presence. $20 gets you a taxi to the cruise ship. Expect a 25 drive. enjoy!

In our opinion, room location makes all of the difference. We reserved an oceanview higher floor but when we checked in, while the floor was high, the view was of adjacent run down buildings. We upgraded for $50 per night to oceanfront..8th floor and the view is well worth it. Another room tip is that not all rooms have bath tubs and our first oceanfront just had a shower but when we called they arranged for us to move next door into a room with a tub and shower. So, if these details are important, make sure you ask.

There is noise from the outdoor pool and entertainment area even on the 8th floor. One evening, there was a private party and by 4 pm they had closed one of the pools to hotel guests in order to set up and began testing the sound system which was deafening. We had to curtail our afternoon wine on the terrace and we did complain to the front desk and they offered complimentary breakfasts for the remainder of our stay. The party ended early and most guests were out to dinner for the evening but 4 pm is a little early to shut off the pool, send guests inside and then deafen their balconies.

Overall, it is a good hotel in a good location. The suites are huge, staff are very friendly and there are 3 pools, a good beach, a casino and lots of food and drink options. What we liked is that it is in fact a resort so you can walk right outside to the pools and beach but it is also in the City so when you walk out the front door, you have walking access to many restaurants and bars.

A few things to keep in mind--as everyone warned us, the public bus system has no apparent schedule and while there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel to take you to Old San Juan, you will most likely just hop in a cab for $15 since the bus never comes. The $15 fee is for the vehicle and you can have as many people in your party and it is still $15 each way to Old San Juan. Another point---walking around Coronado is very safe and well patrolled by police. We always felt safe. Same with the beach--Marriott staff closely monitor it since it is open to a public park next door. We also walked under the highway into the commercial district of San Juan but there is not much there--even on a Saturday afternoon at noon, not much was open.
Another thing to be aware of is the 16% resort fee. Honestly, I can understand a resort fee but they are usually a fixed amount and not a percentage of your room rate. When we asked about the fee we were told it covered the internet fee as well as towels. Towels, really???? Shouldn't we expect towels at the pool as a guest?

So overall it is a good location and clean and safe but make your choices wisely and be aware of high cost for food and annoying fees.

Room Tip: Recommend the Suites Tower which is removed from the Perla restaurant and features ALL SUITES. Then...

Stayed at La Concha for a few days in December with my wife. While the hotel is in respectable shape and is generally neat and clean, I found the cons outweighed the pros at this property.

The lobby is one of the bright spots - its large, open and inviting, with a u shaped bar and a large seating area. The concierge at the resort was helpful and friendly - directions were spot on as well. Pools were in good shape and parking at the resort was convenient.

Our room was relatively large and had a nice bathroom though the furniture and decor were old and tired. For some reason the sheets on the bed were consistently too small, and did not cover the entirety of the bed. Views of the ocean were great.

The food at La Concha is criminally overpriced. While the hotel is certainly not alone in this respect, paying $65 for a two person breakfast of pancakes, eggs, etc is ridiculous. Other restaurants and bars on the property were no different. There are a couple small restaurants nearby, but nothing much to speak of outside of fast food - which I'm sure the hotel is well aware of. Service was spotty - some people are quite helpful and friendly and some want nothing to do with you - or anyone else for that matter.

The hotel is nice and very service oriented. During the day, The pool is the place to be with live DJ and exceptional pool side service of food and drink, The poolside server who helped us, Carlos, made great suggestions that definitely enhanced our time at LA Concha. We will be back to visit and have poolside shots delivered by Carlos! GP

Room Tip: dont miss the ocean front view, worth every penny.
