“Great location and loved it”
Reviewed April 22, 2014 via mobile

My girl and I probably kept everyone awake and excited with the sounds of our excitement- great beds and clean - nice breakfast too - so close to the beach. Old San Juan is romantic - is near the beach and has surfing! The coffee in morning was amazing too! And the little pastries Weree delicious too.

I hope to meet my girl again as it was one of the best weekends of my life! Sorry any neighbors

The location is awesome! Walking distance to many things including the cruise ship port. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable offering information and providing maps of the areas dining options, sites to see and even arranging our taxi back to the airport. They served a continental breakfast every morning included with the room. They also offer free wifi. We enjoyed our stay here.
Remember this hotel is in the heart of things so the streets can get a little noisy but worth the beautiful view from their balcony room.

Zorknold,
We appreciate this great review. We do agree that our location is perfect for those embarking cruises that are right on the Old San Juan pier. So happy to know that the continental breakfast, WIFI and our staff made it a great stay!

Excellent service from the staff. though check-in was an hour late. Very comfortable beds. Great location. Towels were a little old. Curtains couldn't be drawn to get light into room but we did enjoy our little balcony.

Just a wonderful experience at this hotel that allows you to see Old San Juan. Jennifer greeted us with a warm smile, gave us a map and recommended sites to see and restaurants to try. Excellent service from beginning to the end of our stay and the continental breakfast was a nice way of getting our day started. Rooms are a bit small as this is a "boutique" style hotel but are very clean. Bathrooms are also very nice and clean with a great walk in shower. Plenty of outdoor cafes and a nice Starbucks is located very close to the hotel. This hotel will always be our first choice in Old San Juan.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the back street if possible.

We needed an hotel for one night before joining a cruise ship and we couldn't have done better. Right on the edge of the old city and the shops, restaurants and harbour are all within a few steps. We had a couple of awful hotels on our journey from the UK and walking into this haven of quiet and cleanliness was such a joy. Lovely room, nice bathroom and very helpful, friendly staff, we would have gladly stayed on if we didn't have to join our ship. Breakfast was served in the light, high ceilinged reception room on the ground floor and was simple and tasty, only a continental breakfast but very nicely served.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor at the rear of the hotel and was just lovely. The rooms below ours h...

A great place to stay, just around the corner from all the restaurants and shops, cafes, etc. Pretty much everything you want regardless of your vacationing style. The hotel is beautiful outside and nicely appointed inside. Staff and management were particularly fantastic and helped out at every turn. I'd stay here again in a flash.

This was our second visit to San Juan. The first time we stayed in the HIlton on Condado Beach. We choose Chateau Cervantes for our pre-cruise stay this time because we wanted to be in Old San Juan and I wanted to experience a small, quaint boutique hotel. Our room was in the back of the hotel on one of the higher floors.

One thing to note. This is a boutique hotel which is part of the charm. Although nice, the lobby is very small, the elevator is nothing fancy and the hallways are classic old building hallways. Don't expect the large hotel chain opulence and amenities.

The first night we had a nice dinner and explored the area a bit. The following day we walked up to San Cristobal and explored the fort. Very easy walk and the proximity allowed us to easily explore some of the city even though we didn't have a lot of time before we left for the port.

There were quite a few vagrants and beggars in the surrounding area, however there was quite a large police presence and we never felt unsafe.

Highlights
Room was very nice. We stayed in a Junior Suite which wasn't huge but was spacious enough. The bed was off to the side with curtains separating it from the rest of the room. There was a walk in closet and an incredibly large, beautiful bathroom. The room was very nicely decorated.

Free wi-fi was available in in the lobby. My husband's connection also worked in our room which was a bonus but mine didn't.

Staff was very helpful. Upon check-in they made sure we knew where the CVS was as well as gave us some good recommendations for dinner and breakfast. Upon check-out staff made sure we had a taxi available and helped us with our luggage.

Based on the quantity of luggage in the lobby in the morning the hotel was full yet there was zero in-hotel noise the previous night. We felt like we were the only ones staying there.

Cons
The one thing I've seen over and over in other reviews is the issue of outside noise level and I would have to say that was a real problem for us. Given that this is a boutique hotel and an older building, the windows, although quaint and charming, are not soundproof. My husband and I don't typically partake in night life, which was very plentiful in that part of town. In addition to the party atmosphere down the street until about 2 - 3 am in the morning, there was a significant police presence which was noted by the "whooping" of their sirens. Unfortunately this was probably one of the worst night's sleep I've had in a hotel because of the noise.

While we enjoyed the recommended restaurants, it would have been nice if the restaurant would have been open. My husband doesn't eat carbs so the continental breakfast was not of interest to us.

If you enjoy the nightlife or just really want to stay in Old San Juan regardless of the noise I would recommend Chateau Cervantes (although if we were to stay again I'd bring ear plugs)

If you really just want a nice, quite evening with a decent night sleep and possibly some beach time you may want to consider a different part of the city.

Note to hotel management: You may want to consider white noise machines and ear plugs in the room to try and help the alleviate the nighttime noise.

Elizabeth H,

Thank you for the thorough review about your recent stay. We appreciate you naming the pros and cons about our hotel and city. Old San Juan is known for the vibrant nightlife during the weekends and our proximity to so many restaurants and bars is a highlight to many of our guests. We deeply apologize for the noise that did not allow you a pleasant night. We thank you for acknowledging our great staff and charm. We really enjoyed the pictures!
