“a delightful surprise”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

Casa Cotes is a special place. But you can easily miss it. It is on Calle San Fransisco in Old San Juan. Try the
Brownie from the dessert menu. I've never had anything like it. The chocolate drinks are wonderful too. If you dare, have the Montezuma hot chocolate with a chili afterglow and a small slice of cheese, yes in the hot chocolate. Unbelievably good.

“Where two of the greatest pleasure of life merge: Chocolate and Art”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Casa Cortes is a unique place to visit. It has nothing to do with "Williy Wonka's Chocolate Factory". It combines 2 of the greatest pleasures of life: Chocolate and Art. The restaurant is on the ground floor. It has a very friendly atmosphere and its employees make you feel at home. The menu has a variety of dishes all of them have a touch of chocolate. I tried the pork rings with chocolate, simply divine. I also tried the chocolate martini. And it was a wow. I also had the Mallorca with Jamón Iberico. Very tasty and good to have if you go for lunch or brunch. The 2nd floor is an open space where they have art exhibits of local artists.
I will definitely go back.

“The marvelous world of chocolate”
Reviewed December 26, 2013 via mobile

It is not just that you will be surrounded (engulfed?) by chocolate (from wall posters to live videos to sweet sculptures to the overwhelming chocolate pigment everywhere, always in artful form and exquisite taste). Coming to this "chocolatería" is an experience for all your senses. But the masterpiece and leading, everlasting factor is the gastronomical tour de force of the prime substance from
the gods: chocolate. Drinking hot chocolate european style accompanied by "churros" or "mallorcas" is just exhilarating. And the old world atmosphere with a modern twist has been optimally accomplished. Now, you do not have to be shy about raising your chocolate tastebuds with alcohol enhancement. This chocolate coffee shop has a full bar and offers a great variety of drinks and cocktails. So, do not wait anymore and visit this new and welcomed addition to Old San Juan which might even displace all other coffee shops in the neighborhood, most of them excellent and smaller scale but more intimate places.
