While staying at The Dream's Hotel it was recommend we try Mastro as we were not up for heading far and it's location was only a few blocks walk from Avenida Universidad.
Rather than try their pizza, which they are known for, we tried Puerto Rican favorites including a variety of Mofongo-based dishes including chicken, beef and shrimp. Also, rices were sampled.
Although several in our party were not familiar with and didn't seem to care for some of what we ordered, the food was good and I think well prepared. In the end pizza would have been faster as additional prepartion time is required for the "fancier" foods offered at Mastro.
One lesson learned: there is a large A/C unit in the center of the ceiling. Do not sit under this unit unless you are prepared to be cold!
Overall I would say Mastro is a very good restaurant for this working class / university neighborhood and I would not hesitate returning.
