“Coconut martini a must!”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

We were in San Juan just for a day before our cruise. Our driver, Antonio, suggested Anamu for dinner; it was excellent!! We were seated immediately and a complimentary "shot" of root vegetable soup kicked it off. The coconut martini was amazing and the Mojito just a good! There were 4 of us and we ordered 6 starters to share, just the right portion for everyone!! A must is the goat cheese and chips!! The conch was marinated perfectly and the meatballs were fantastic!! Overall terrific! Only 1 downside, once they started to get busy the server was not as attentive and it took over 30 minutes for our dessert to arrive (flaming crepes, delicious!). We would definitely go back!

“A beautiful new life for the former Baru !!!”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

To our joy we discovered that one of our long time favorite spots in Old San Juan has been reborn and the celebration has begun! For many years Baru ( located at the same location) was a great spot - but as everyone knew, sadly, in recent years, owners had changed hands, management struggled, and quality declined... The restaurant closed late spring 2012. But to the joy of so many friends and diners - it has just reopened as Anamu - new owners have stepped in, management is definitely up to par, many former staffers have returned, and the same chef is back making magic in the kitchen. It's as if everyone and everything ( on the menu) has new spirit and inspiration. My husband and I happened by on a rumor they had reopened, early on what turned out to be opening night - and we were greeted so warmly we never guessed the staff was in full gear for such an important night. Everything was perfect. Somehow, the staff managed to make us feel special and relaxed in the midst of an opening party. The food was just great. We shared a capresi salad and I had a fantastic entree of scallops on a crunchy root vegetable nest with an incredibly light, barely there, lime cream sauce. This along with a signature chick pea risotto was truly wonderful. My husband's perfectly prepared fish entree pared also with a different risotto was equally impressive. In the midst of all this, we watched as the staff managed a full house in the main dining room, while perfectly managing a private party of at least 20 on the patio - and this despite a sudden rain shower. just watching the staff pull all this off absolutely amazed us. We returned two nights later - this time, shrimp tempura and a parm risotto for me, and an antipasti board followed by a filet risotto in red wine for my husband. Absolutely beautiful all around. We left not one bite on any plate either night.
Our deepest thanks and congratulations to the new owners and staff for months of effort to bring back - and advance forward - this great place! The future looks bright !

“Not to sure!”
Reviewed February 9, 2013 via mobile

Had a 2 courses dinner with Ceviche and Res risotto.

The ceviche was taste less!

The risotto was good, well cooked but I must say that the meat that was mix on it, had a taste like liver :s

The bar and the dinning room look nice with a good atmosphere from the front of house staff! Very professional...

If you ask me about Anamu... I will not recommend you to eat! May be for a good cocktail at the bar...
