“Best Christmas Adventure a New Englander Could Ask for”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

I must start by saying that the experience is a must for any visitor. I came down to the island to visit family during the holiday break [honestly, to escape the first half of the New England winter] and bought this package. I was expecting it to be the same old boring bring your tube and float down the wasted river. To my surprise it was the complete opposite. The staff really knows that exclusivity is their best asset. You pay for an amazing experience within a private property and a small group. If your group is not a family or friends group, you will end up with a new family. The intimacy of the trip and the dynamics of the of it all allow for the creation and strengthening of bonds. Betzy, Emmanuel, Humberto, and Mimi ARE amazing and knowledgeable guides that worry about every little detail but most importantly the safety of you and your group. Being an expat boricua and a biology aficionado, I learned a lot of things from our culture and nature including: distinguishing native bird calls, adjacent cave systems, medicinal plants, and bat behavior behavior. Once you plunge through the cave into the river their ARE A LOT of bonding exercises that you I could mention but rather have you experience. They are fun and learning experiences that allow you to get to know and trust better your family, friends, or new acquaintances. In the end, when you are all soaked, tired and muddy, you can relax by taking a very relaxing and cleansing shower in their so called nature showers. This are very primitive showers where you stand on sturdy wooden palettes at the edge of a 300+ ft cliff with nothing but mother nature surrounding you [AMAZING]. Don't let the previous review about false information deter your decision to go on this trip, it is much better than the tubing experience and this one really is bilingual. Explora is a very professional and solid company, maybe the person forgot to specify that he/she wanted to do the caving adventure, which is a 2.5 hr water cave exploration in the Camuy munipality. That is our next trip as well as the new Level 3 adventure in the making. We are really looking forward to doing future business with Explora and joining them in their new trips. Very satisfied and recommend it completely.

“not as advertised and overpriced”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

While the guide was very helpful and pleasant the tour itself was a waste of time. Their site describes the activity " a hidden world of limestone caves as you drift down an underground river, end the day with a plunge in clear sping waters." There was some nice hiking, but we did not explore any caves, it was not an underground river at all, we did float briefly through 1 large cave at the beginning for a minute, there was not enough water in the river for body rafting so we floated a few small rapids and every one was hitting on painful rocks only covered with about 2 inches of water, and there was no spring at the end, we merely hiked up a muddy trail at the end of the day. An honest tour operator would have canceled this excursion if the conditions were not adequate to do the activities or at least let people know the situation and given them the opportunity to cancel. None of this was the fault of our guide who was very knowledgable and helpful, he was the one positive thing during the day.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013 via mobile

We went on the walk/cave and body surfing adventure and absolutely loved it. The guides were knowledgable, friendly and patient with us we were two English people in a group of locals! But everyone was so good to us.

The guides kindly picked us up from the hotel, and to be honest, on this point was a godsend. The locals said they would have had difficulty finding the place let alone tourists in a hire car! However, I believe this was a one off. Which is a shame. If the company offered transport more I think more tourist would go. However, for us this was a good point and not negative.

We had breakfast in a bakery and picked up a sandwich. Went down very well!

Arriving at camp we put on life jackets and helmets and knee pads.

Then walk down through the forest. The guides were really knowledgable and helpful.

Once at the bottom we went into the cave. Top tip! Don't wear anything that can't get dirty we were a right state and loved it! It was caving! squeezing through little gaps, climbing over rocks, ropes were involved! Complete darkness etc etc. I mention this was we thought we were going to look inside a cave, say very nice and walk out! No! It was fantastic and great fun.

We body surfed out of the cave, where disappointment hit. We couldn't body surf down the river due to the low level of water. This was a great disappointment to us, slightly confused why this wasn't mentioned before as they would have known about this before we set off!!! However, disappointment aside we did a little body surfing coming out of the cave and at the end of the day you have to roll with it!

We walked all the way back up the hill where there were crisps and drink waiting. A hose was provided to rinse your clothes and ourself out! Changing rooms as well.

We had to wait for the guides to pack up before we could leave as they were giving us a lift back but this wasn't a problem. Some very kind people who had been on our adventure gave us a local beer each which we thought so nice of them and it went down very well!

Everyone was friendly and lovely

I would definitely recommend this company and tour. We would do it again when the water is higher to do the body surfing.

Just excellent. Thank you. A fantastic day out.

“Great experience to connect with mother nature”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

It was hours of walking/body rafting into dense floral/caves north area of Puerto Rico. It is a great experience, I can recommended it. The staff is very knowledgeable, and they bring history and facts about this specific area and its geology.

the only negative comment I could says: everybody finished all dirty because of the mud and slippery terrain, but its part of the fun!

December, water is very cold!, I recommend to be prepared for that.

“Great Experience!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2012

It was a great experience. At first I was a bit scared about the rappelling but the guides make you feel very safe. It’s like an undiscovered paradise. It is only you and nature, which great!! Our main guide, Mimi, was awesome she explained many curious facts about the trees, plants and wild life. We were a group of friends and we had a blast!! We looked like little kids laughing and trying to body raft without bumping to each other. I will recommend this experience to everyone!
