This is a really nice place for a walk along the many trails. However, if you are looking for a manicured botanical gardens with labelled specimens, this would be disappointing. I loved the lushness of it, and can definitely see why there were a lot of people enjoying walking or running there.

It was a little hard to find, and even when we did find it, we were kinda confused on where to go. We were there close to closing, so we only spent about 45 minutes walking around. We could have easily spent a lot longer both walking the trails and driving through it. Oh well, next time!

This is a terrible botanical garden. It is really the school's campus. The collection of plants is poor, and nothing is labeled.

The colorful map is a joke. It shows an orchid area and collection, but there is nothing there!

Then you find out that there is an orchid nursery on the other side of the garden, with complex directions across a freeway! But it is closed for lunch!

When you get to the nursery, you find they are growing lots of Cattleyas for sale, but they don't know the names of any of them! They don't know if they are species, hybrids, varieties or anything! And they don't have any prices marked.

Don't waste your time at this place. Spend the time you save in El Yunque.

We just got back from S.J. and drove around the Botanical gardens which were tricky to find. It is quite interesting to see the grounds of this extension of the Univ. of PR but the guard does not have any maps to give you and one gets the feeling that it was once a very up coming place but ran out of support money. There are some very interesting large scale sculptures on the grounds and lagoon areas nicely lanscaped with palms and other local plants. Definitely worth checking out it you are looking for something different to do close to S.J.
