“Good food, but service spotty”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

We had a late lunch here expecting to find typical Mexican food as a bit of a break from the Puerto Rican food we had been eating in previous days. We found a menu that mixed Puerto Rican flavors into the traditional Mexican forms, an interesting combination that tasted quite nice.

Prices were typical for the tourist side of San Juan, a bit higher than we would like but tolerable. Service was quite inattentive, as though it was some type of privilege to actually have the opportunity to order and pay. Atmosphere was okay, but not outstanding.

“Great fajitas and pina coladas during festival. ”
Reviewed February 8, 2014 via mobile

We walked to old San Juan from the Caribe Hilton and were thoroughly enjoying the festival when we got hungry. We walked all over and up and down the streets among hundreds of people when suddenly we stumbled upon Tio Danny's. We love Mexican food and we wanted a few frozen drinks so it fit the bill. It was air conditioned which felt heavenly after walking for hours in 90 degrees. I ordered a pina colada and the bartender made it with Bacardi 151...sweet! A couple of those and we were happy. Our bartender was also our server and she was very friendly and talkative. We were in no hurry and since it was 3pm it was fairly quiet inside. We ordered the steak and chicken fajitas and they came out nice and sizzling. Delicious. We got the appetizer of fried cheese with mango dipping sauce and that was tasty too. We enjoyed the experience and would love to return again the next time we visit.

“Great Nachos!”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

When we visit Old Juan, Tio Danny's is our fist stop after checking into Hotel Milano just down the block. We always order the Nachos as they are some of the best. We usually arrive for an early dinner so have not been there when the restaurant gets super busy in the evening. We've been here quite a few times and are looking forward to another visit in a few days. I was surprised at a comment that the restaurant was dirty. We've NOT ever found that to be the case. It always appears clean. They have had musicians on the weekend who set up in the bar dining area which we found to be way too loud to enjoy our meal. Wait service is so-so, however, that is not unusual based on our experience in San Juan and other tropical cities restaurants. If you're looking for a nice place to enjoy Puerto Rican or Mexican food that won't break the bank, this is the perfect place in Old San Juan.

“People drinking outside recommended this place.”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

They had lunch here a retuned for drinks. Not crowded, but a descent amount of people. Waiter was slow and being trained by the bartender and genuinely wanted to please. Margaritas were good and throughly enjoyed the Chicarrones with a side of guacamole. The Nutella turnover was excellent. Unfortunately they do not serve coffee. Get on the ball Tio Danny! I was surprised when I read all the negative reviews. Give them a shot. Food is good and place is funky (but certainly not dirty.)
