Description: Vaca Brava is fun and tasty! A unique puertorrican country style restaurant, focused on steaks, mashed plantains and other delightful local ingredients, this place introduced the elevated custom designed platters. That revolutionized the restaurant industry along the island and spread the word of mouth, calling the attention of the locals, as well as the international media. Some of the dishes like "La Vaca Acostá" (The resting cow), "El tendedero" (The drying rack) and the traditional mofongo, amongst others, became famous and immediately long lines of diners were made to taste the innovative concept. Whole families ate from a single service; and singles like Adam Richman from The Travel Channel visited Puerto Rico to take on the "Vaca Acostá" Challenge, an 8-lb. platter of grilled sirloin steak and sides.

My boyfriend and I wandered into this place after strolling through San Juan. It's a bit different than the other local places but the food, atmosphere, and service was memorable.

“Lots of food”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

The food quantity is huge, for me it was too much. The flavor is ok, i think quantity is first and quality is second. The people are fun and entertaining, it's definitely a puertorican novelty.

“Dark atmosphere”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

Visited Vaca Brava per the hotel's recommendation. The pork chop meal portion was larger than life. Enough to share with two. Fatty though. Mojitos, not the best. Waitress exceptional, forget her name. Very friendly. Food wasn't the best, but ok. Skirt steak was flavored well. Overall tourist trap. Try cafe Puerto Rico down the block. Much better.

“Good experience, although the price was ok.”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

We wanted to go to the Hard Rock in Old San Juan but was surprised to see they had closed! OHH!!!! Vaca Brava was there instead and most of the old décor (sans the Rock and Roll memorabilia) was used for the restaurant. Even the big bull was still there. We were a party of 5 with two preteens and the two plates we ordered were enough food for all of us. The steak was not first quality of course, and it was too thin in my opinion (for the price we paid). The seasoning on the food was delicious and garlicky. They did serve the meat on a bed of fries but it wasn't enough to feed all 5 of us so we had to order extra sides.
Of course the drinks are not included (like someone here seemed to assume).

The kids loved the place and 'til this day they talk about it. They loved the meal and we would probably go back again. Depending on where you come from, you will consider it expensive or about average. Definitely not economical.

This restaurant is well managed and deserves your business. Service is top rate. Staff is friendly and bilingual.
The churrasco mofongo and mojitos are recommended.
