“Get the Rice. The Remix”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

Went back to Verde Mesa this year and it is as wonderful as I remembered. The Rice is just incredible. Honestly. Enjoyed the bruschetta (not your run-of-the-mill boring bruschetta!), great wine, and exquisite ambiance. Food was amazingly fresh. Wait staff friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Will return again next year!

“A special "Farm To Table" dining experience”
Reviewed April 26, 2014

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel, La Terraza's staff as a unique and delicious dining experience. The owner, a young woman, greeted us at the entrance of this small, stylish & intimate restaurant located in the fashionable Paseo Princesa area overlooking the harbor.
She told us it was the only "Farm To Table" organic restaurant in San Juan. She has owned it 5 years and has been at the forefront of getting more restaurants to support local farm produce. She has her own farm that supports most of the fresh food used at the restaurant as well as local fish providers. No meat is served.
The decor, which she explained she did herself, was beautiful and a bit whimsical. The celling because it was low for buildings in San Juan, she had done in large tin tiles and paint washed with a light greenish color. The lights, which she had also designed, were make of small glass fruit jars hanging at different heights. The one large window had a roman shade of a French Etoile fabric and there was a large French country side board filled with white ceramic pitchers and plates. The tables had marble tops and the chairs varied from straight back to upholstered. We loved it!
The food was also amazing. We both had the fresh swordfish served on a bed of roasted parsnips. It was the best swordfish we ever tasted... and we New England picky fish lovers!
The desserts were also fabulous. I had what was called "the Purple Cloud" a mixture of fresh heavy cream whipped with pieces of meringue, blueberries and raspberries mixed together-fabulous! My husband had a pineapple cake that was so moist and flavored with a creme Anglais sauce. The whole meal was perfection!
They do not take reservations but we had only a few minutes wait and had a cocktail in a small cozy area while we talked to the owner who was so very friendly and engaging.

“Absolutely stunning restaurant”
Reviewed April 19, 2014 via mobile

Delicious vegetarians and fish options. The place looks likes anthropology store opened a restaurant. Very cozy and tasteful decor. The owner was there to personally welcome us and was so warm and personally took us to our table. The service can surely improve with wait time for food and may be more frequent checks on their customers. Overall the food was so delicious that I can totally overlook that factor. I tried their swordfish, Mediterranean platter and purple cloud. Drinks were average. Will surely try this place again.

“Verde Mesa Restaurant”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

Without a doubt, the best dinner I had during my last visit to Puerto Rico and Old San Juan, invited by La Terrasa de San Juan Hotel. Space, location, atmosphere, food and drinks were just perfect, in balance and compliment to Old San Juan. Located on Calle Tetuan #107, perched on the wall of the Old San Juan, along the Paseo De La Princesa. Verde Mesa is a fish and vegetarian restaurant, featuring great dishes including traditional Puerto Rican ones, which will even captivate the meat lovers.

My choices for the night were: (drink) Rum Green Infusion with refreshing basil, lemon, cucumber, and little of brown sugar – USD 10. (appetizer) Boquerones – USD 14 (main course) CousCous Nicoise with fresh seared market tuna steak with a special vinaigrette, resting on top of couscous infused with honey marinated greek olives and cumin marinated mango. Served in a platter with sautéed asparagus and fresh tomato salad with goat cheese – USD 26 (dessert) Vegetarian Curry Custard.

My only comment and recommendation to this restaurant, would be to lower the lights for dinner to create more intimate and private environment, allowing the many lights having from the ceiling to create a magical atmosphere, maybe along with some candelabras

“Veggie restaurant”
Reviewed April 8, 2014

The staff was very nice. It is a vegetarian and fish restaurant. The Mediterranean appetizer was very good. My rice dish was good, also, but, being allergic to nuts, I was a bit apprehensive about the food. Nevertheless, I survived. Good wines at fair prices.
