Description: The oldest bar in Old San Juan.

After a hot afternoon of walking up and down the cobblestone streets of old San Juan, Nono's appeared like an oasis in the desert. Nothing special about the place--it's just a bar--but the location is great, across from a little plaza where on this Sunday a mini-symphony orchestra was giving a show. Despite being on duty alone, the bartender took pity on us and let us order some snax from the restaurant next door, which we ate @ the while the Spurs/Mavericks game played on the TV. And the snax were amazing. Sometimes a good bartender is all you need to make a difference.

My wife and I stopped here for a late lunch. We went to the bar first, but wanted lunch so were directed to go next door to the restaurant part of the place. We were met promptly and seated. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. We had mofongo and trifongo. Both were good and are good examples of local foods.

Our food came without much delay and the portions were large. They were well prepared and we enjoyed both of them. The dining area was well lit and decorated. We were pleased that we ate there.

This is a great little find. It is a bar that does not serve food - you will be directed next door if you want to eat. There is a huge choice of beers and other drinks that are well priced considering the location. Get a seat at the bar and watch the bar tender at work. We visited twice and had beer and mojitos which were excellent. We also got to taste a bit of piña colada that had been made for another customer - also good!

Stopped here on our first night in Old San Juan, because one of our favorite tv shows (Three Sheets) filmed an episode here. There was nothing special about this place. At 7pm, there were some drunk people making out at the bar, and a few other couples. Service was ok, again nothing special. The mojitos were not great and they were the most expensive drinks we had in OSJ. I didn't notice anyone eating food and didn't see any menus. Sorry, but I can't recommend going here, there are better places to go.

This is one my favorite bars in the entire world! No trip to Viejo San Juan is complete with a stop at Nono's. In fact, it is the perfect bar to either start a walking tour or end a walking tour of old San Juan. This is a no frills bar so if you are looking for a sophisticated trendy bar just walk on by! On the other hand, if you want a feel for a great local bar there is a stool waiting for you. Try a shot of 43 with cream and let the day or night begin!
