Description: Chef José Santaella has trained with some of the best chefs in the world, including Ferrán Adriá, Eric Ripert, and Gary Danko. His apprenticeships and successful catering career paved the way for Santaella, his signature restaurant in Santurce's La Placita Marketplace. The decor is rustic yet elegant, with exposed walls, Edison light fixtures, an interior garden, and a sparkling bar. Chef Santaella fuses local and international ingredients to perfectly execute Puerto Rican nouvelle cuisine. The menu is dominated by tapas, which you can easily make into a meal. Favorites include the ahi tuna skewers, goat cheese quesadilla, 'alcapurrias' topped with crab, and foie gras terrine with fruit jelly . The cocktail bar is one of the best on the island, so don't leave without trying one of the concoctions by Santaella's mixologists. -Fodors

We just had a very nice group dinner here, very nice food, since we were 7 we were able to try a lot of entrees, everything tasted excellent and service was very friendly and attentive. Restaurant gets busy offering a very good ambiance and music, great wine list as well.
Restaurant is located at a nice area near other restaursnts, easily accesible by cab or uber.
Thumbs up on this one!

Couldn't wait to get back here and we weren't disappointed. We had a watermelon mojito and a glass of wine. We couldn't resist the Bacon Croquettas to start which are soo good. Then we had a duck breast and a plantain and apple hash. Also we ordered a smoked pork shank in a delicious crusty glaze and a really good potato salad. Yum.

We weren't too hungry after that so we shared a salted creme caramel with whipped cream. What a finish. We love this restaurant. We will come back whenever we are on the Island. BTW, the service is great.

We went to santaella our first night in San Juan. Had a 730p reservation and weren't seated until after 8. That wasn't too big a bother for us as the bar was fantastic and our drinks ultimately never made it to the bill.
Dinner was also fantastic. We opted for several (about 6) small plates/appetizers to share vs an appetizer and main each. The food itself was outstanding. Our server was super friendly and helpful but we were left waiting at times and were often given our dishes without serving utensils or our plates.

All in all I would still highly recommend it as long as you don't let some potential spotty service get in the way. We were relaxed and on vacation so we let it slide as we weren't in a rush

Went here for dinner as a table of 2 with my boyfriend on a Saturday night. We didnt have reservations but we were sat right down which was much appreciated because it was a full house 5 minutes later. The ambience was perfect with dimmed lighting from industrial chic light fixtures throughout the entire ceiling. The servers all seemed super tentative especially our own waiter whom made many lovely suggestions and answered our endless menu questions. (Im so sorry I forgot your name but you were 10/10!) We ordered numerous appetizers and they were all delicious and unique. (Scallops ceviche, deviled eggs with crispy chicken skin, grilled octopus, foie gras and crab croquettas and dessert) My favorite part were the craft cocktails that were truly made with heart and soul. We had asked for the bartender to make 2 cocktails with gin of his choice that wasnt on the menu and the bartender (whom I have been told is the best in PR) hand delivered them himself and were to die for. Hit all marks for a special dinner night in my books. Bravo !

Along with Jaquita Baya... this is one of the top 3 restaurants for me. It is very expensive, but the food and ambiance make up for it.

Cuisine is puertorrican fusion, after going there 4 times I haven't found something I disliked.

ORDER EVERYTHING!!! And by the recipe book. You will thank me later!!!
