“Great Place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

If you want authentic puerto rican food in an upscale environment this is your place. Appetizers were terrific, we had the empanadas. For I had chicken kabobs which were great and my girlfriend had the shrimp and said it was the best she ever had. The drinks are also terrific. We had the sangria (red) and one of they're other specialty cocktails. We din't have any room for dessert unfortunately but they did send over a few complimentary shots of of they're housemade coffee moonshine; perfect cap to the night. JC was our waiter and he is the man. Ask for him if you go, very attentive and friendly. I will go back to Casa Lola everytime I visit San Juan!

“Uneven....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

Our service experience was not the best here, but the food was delicious! My mother ordered an extra dry martini and the first one came and it was almost all vermouth. I returned it to the bartender (since the waiter’s English was not strong) and said – “she ordered extra dry, this has too much vermouth”. The next drink was just as bad, if not worse. She returned it and didn’t try for a third time – but they did not charge us for the drink. The waiter seemed harried and after we had ordered we heard him giving specials to another table that we did not get to hear. Ultimately our meals were good and delivered relatively promptly. My mom had the snapper entrée and it was very good. I had two appetizers as my meal – and either one would have been enough on its own! They were smoked swordfish pate with tortilla chips and fresh tomatoes and then a dish of three arepas with shrimp, crab and ropa vieja stuffing. Delicious! We sat in a room outside the bar area with a lovely view of the bay. The dining room looked cozy as well. They are on Open Table so reservations are easy.

“Chances are you will walk right past this gem.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

Being in San Juan especially the Condado Lagoon area, we were on the search for not only good food but service that also took care of you. It wasn't until our last night that we were able to find an establishment to do so. The exterior of the building might put off a vibe that the place is slow and not a restaurant of good cuisine, but we were quite surprised when we entered. Greeted immediately at the door and taken right to a table with a look over the water and city in the back ground. JC was our server, he was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. When asking for recommendations he directed us to just what we wanted. The Caribbean mofongo with tripleta was a perfect blend of flavors, complimented with a nice little palate cleansing salad. The risotto with pork was creamy and cooked perfectly.

This was a stumble for us when walking down the street and I am glad we took the chance. Thank you for finishing out or trip with the best meal and service. We will be returning again.

“I'm so confused by the good reviews of this place”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

We must have caught this restaurant on an off night. Our party of 6 wasn't seated until almost 30 minutes after our reservation, and then, after ordering, our food didn't arrive for almost 2 hours. That's right, I said almost 2 hours. We had to ask for the Sangria we ordered as it never made it to the table. Once the food did arrive, more than half of the dishes were terrible. One plate was actually cold. We asked to speak to a manager and was at first told that he had left for the night, however, eventually after doing some detective work and enlisting the help of a different waiter, we did speak to someone who was very nice and ended up comping the meal. I hesitate to write this, as the restaurant did try to make it right, but we sat for almost 3 hours before being served, our waiter went missing after our initial drink order, and the food was downright bad. Until we got up from the table and demanded some assistance, no one even apologized for the service or time it was taking. I wouldn't go back under any circumstances.

“Friendly, helpful staff and good local flavor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

As a vegetarian, sometimes choices are quite limited but server advised that chef was vegetarian, too and recommended the chef's favorite which was very good. My husband and our friend had meat dishes which they didn't like as well- huge pork chops but were apparently difficult to cut. However, it was a nice meal in a pleasant atmosphere. With drinks, it was about $100 per couple plus tip.
