“Great location and friendly owner!”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

We stayed at this hostel over labor day weekend 2012. It was very easy to find since it overlooked Colon Square. We checked in early on Saturday morning, placing our luggage in the storage room. The owner recommended a cafe down the street for lunch and wa very helpful with recommending places for us to try. We came back later in the day when our room wa ready. We had a private room with a king size bed, a refridgerator and a flat screen satellite television. We didn't really use the tv, however the fridge was very handy. We were able to always have cold water this way. Also, the air conditioning worked great! I want to stress this is a hostel...there were others staying who were expecting the amenities of a hotel, and were not happy. I would definitely stay here again based on location and price!!

What a beautiful place! We stayed on the 6th floor (private). Our room was simple, clean and had small touches that made it very comfortable. The common areas were perfect to enjoy a view of the bay and really get into vacation mode. The owners were so sweet and worked so hard to make the place run. The location couldn't have been better. It was only 2 blocks away from the main strip of restaurants, street food and cafés all around, and only 6 blocks away from a beach, directly next to Castillo de San Cristobal. When checking in, take the old elevator up to the 6th floor (you may need to call the owners if they are not at the desk). You won't be disappointed here.

Room Tip: 5th and 6th floors are privates, 4th is the dorm. The balconies are on common areas, not rooms.

I stayed in a private room at this hostel for two nights. It was clean and comfortable. The hostel is in a good location a half block from San Cristobal with restaurants on both sides. The building is very old and has lots of character. The community kitchen was great and the mini fridge in the private room was a money saver. Shared bathroom was never an issue. It was rarely in use and there is a second half bath down the hall. Negatives are that the elevator is old and slow. We opted to take the stairs six floors up for the exercise. The trolley for El Morro is right around the corner. I would strongly recommend not renting a car while in OSJ. Streets are narrow with no parking. You can easily get around by foot or trolley.

Room Tip: Stay in the private rooms with a/c, fridge and TV. It is well worth the few extra dollars.

The Posada San Francisco in Old San Juan Puerto Rico is such a great place to stay. The staff is wonderful and accomodating, the rooms are spacious, and the location is impeccable. I would recommend that if anyone is going to Puerto Rico they should stay at this hostel. I am a young, single female and I traveled to San Juan alone. I stayed in the all female dormroom and felt completely safe and at home. I met a lot of different people and we had a great time watching fireworks from the balcony and venturing out to the local bars and clubs. I can't wait to go back and when I do, I will definitely be staying at this hostel. I must say however, if anyone is not used to sharing a space, they will not enjoy this hostel (or any, for that matter). It differs from a hotel in that you share the kitchen and bathroom space. I didn't mind it, since they always kept the spaces clean and people generally picked up after themselves. This is a great place to stay if you want to save some money, meet new people, and have a great experience.

Room Tip: If you are traveling alone, it's best to stay in the dorms. You will meet new friends and have a...

Hotel Posada

What a GREAT place, centrally located (the location is as good as it gets), comfortable beds, AC, Satellite TV, very clean with nice areas to chill with free wifi and if a bargain makes you happy you will about fall over with joy after finding this place. Walk to the many great shopping and restaurant spots and if you're on a cruise holiday, you can see the Carnival Victory ship docked about 600 yards away from the front windows. You don't need expensive taxi's when you stay here.
After our phantom Fox Rentacar shuttle bus never showed up we decided to stay the two nights before our June Carnival Victory cruise in San Juan instead of San Remo. Virginia
and her daughter own and operate this 21 room hostel on the 6th floor of a nice building overlooking the fountain and statue of Christopher Columbus.
Their rate is always the same high or low season and we paid 65usd a night (for two). The price for the hotels (low season) is 130 or so to 200 plus per night. This is not a hotel, they don't turn the beds each day and you get to use the same provided towel multiple days. There is a front desk but it is occupied only when they check in or out guests. The bathrooms are shared and somehow remain pretty clean and there is enough of them that you don't have to wait much if at all. The place to enter is a metal green door to the right of a bar/restaurant called the Food Court (it's confusing). You have to elevator yourself up to the 6th floor and chances are you have to call Virginia or her daughter to meet you to get you settled in. Virginia is a really thoughtful person, she doesn't just hand you a map she really takes the time to show you things to do even walking you to the open air view of her city to show you the streets to walk down.
Here are a few things I wanted to know before coming... Taxi's, from the airport prices are fixed (about 25 USD to San Juan Old Town) and take about 15 minutes. A guy at the airport asks you your destination and the next cab in line wisks you away. In Old Town it can cost 15 bucks for a 1 mile ride. For food and a night of San Juan culture, try Triana (there is another named Rosa De Triana) on Fri and Sat around 830pm they have a Flamenco show that is free and nicely priced dinners and this is a 10 minute walk from hotel. 251 Recinto Sur Old San Juan. Other places can charge 40 bucks cover to watch a show.

Cell Phones, my ATT plan is covered here with no roaming so phone and wifi was used just like at home, call your provider in advance. There is a free tram (looks like the Universal studios trams only white) that circles the city, hop on one and get a nice tour. Ask any local where to catch one. San Juan is safe and the beaches are descent but not the really white sand and turquoise water. The people are warm friendly and accommodating. Nightlife good on weekends but dead during the week.

Room Tip: call in advance, BEST location, not a hotel so don't expect a typical front desk. Buy some Tapa...

This hostel has a great location in Old San Juan, for a very good rate. I stayed in an all female four-bed dorm, and it was very comfortable. It's only about $20-25 from the airport by cab. I was also really impressed with how clean it was, they had cleaning staff there twice during my four night stay. There's a great view from the balcony and the kitchen area is nice. The only thing I didn't like was that there was no one there to greet us when we arrived so we couldn't drop off our bags and were forced to enjoy a beverage down the street while we waited.

The basics are provided at a decent rate per a night and you are close to downtown. The only thing that people may not like is the shared bathrooms and limited upkeep of the building. Nice view and large kitchen.
