Good local fare here, friendly service and fun central location. We ate outside with a view of Colon Square and all that happens there.

We had the pork and chicken mofongos, a local specialty for which they are renowned. They lived up to their reputation! The waiters were courteous and friendly, sharing many details about the area to visitors. The restaurant is beautiful (we were seated upstairs), the food's delicious, the portions are generous, and the price is right. Highly recommend.

LOL not sure I spelled that right but you have got to try this place! On recommendations from the tour guide who took us to the rain forest after our cruise docked, we made reservations for Cafe Puerto Rico. The cafe is very quiet and unassuming looking from the outside but the food makes up for that! We tried a variety of dishes but most of them were mofongo. Based on several recommendations we had received we all opted for the yucca mofongo rather than the plantain. Among the six of us we had the chicken alfredo, the skirt steak and the seafood dishes. All had delicious gravies or sauces that you could just lick off the plate! In addition we did have a couple of the plantain appetizers to start and they were also tasty. Some of my party tried the tres leches dessert and the flan. I wasn't overly impressed with either, but then they're not something I would usually like and everyone else raved about them! Should we ever return to Puerto Rico, we would be very likely to return to Cafe Puerto Rico for another meal!

After a few days blissing out at the beach we headed into Old San Juan for dinner and Cafe Puerto Rico did not disappoint!

My husband had veggie mofongo with cassava and I had chicken mofongo with sweet plantains - both were fantastic! For dessert he had chocolate flan and I had guava bread pudding that was ridiculously delicious.

Service was great and prices were reasonable. We had a cocktail, soda, 2 entrees and 2 desserts plus a 20% tip for $55
