Old San Juan is beautiful, but can be very noisy with tourists and cars until you come to the area around El Convento. Cafe Esperanza is my secret spot, nearby. They have outside tables fringed by palms on a quiet side street with no traffic, just a beautiful tranquility. They served the best Mohitos I ever tasted, and the owner/chef took special pride in serving the freshest and most delicious meals, with exquisite balsamic vinegar dressings for instance, crafted for each dish. Five star food, at an incredibly reasonable price. A sort of "in the know" kind of place, as we saw "locals" there, rather than just the tourist trade. I am torn in giving them the high marks they deserve, because I when I return, I will certainly want a table there.

Try tuna sandwich. It's probably the best tuna sandwich you ever had!

They have the best mojitos and they had a good selection of sandwiches. What loved about the sandwiches were the fresh ingredients used.

We wondered the streets of Puerto Rico for hours longing for a delicious meal to nourish our fatigued bodies. Every cafe we passed turned out to be some kind of souvenir shop pretending to serve food. At deaths door the hungry travellers stumbled upon a place down a side street with three small tables out front. it was the Cafe Esperanza.

The waiter didn't speak english, and about 6 of the items he called "salmon" but they had great mojitos, possibly the best in the world. It was down a quiet side street and pretty relaxing. The service was slower than a 56k modem (ZING!) and the waiter smoked about 10 cigarettes 2 feet from our table. However after a few drinks his hacking cough didn't seem so contagious.

The waiter even accepted credit cards and split our checks with no problem. That ish cray!

Many other people were in a similar dilemma trying to find a nice place to eat in Old San Juan. Sadly for them the dafe closed right after we got there and we watched them turn away other starving tourists like they were lepers.

The menu told us to find them on Facebook, but we are pretty sure that they just saw that on some ad somewhere and copied it thinking it was English for "great deals".

In conclusion, we all survived, and we all had salmon, and mojitos. As of 3 hours after eating, we are all alive and nobody has food poisoning. An overall amazing experience.
