“Fabulous spot fabulous food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

Ate here and it was so good we came back the next night to do it again! Spectacular Italian food with a glorious little outdoor patio dining area (also indoor seating if preferred) in Old San Juan. Family place -- Dad cooks, daughters serve -- everything was delicious, we ordered too much to be able to taste more things, pastas really terrific, very generous portions, extremely friendly service, good and reasonable wine list (try the primitivo!)

“Amazing Italian Family Dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2014

Calling this quaint and unique establishment a restaurant is somewhat a misnomer. It feels like a family trattoria in Italy where the emphasis is on freshness and simplicity. While visiting friends in San Juan a few years ago , this cucina was recommended and we sat outside for lunch. Many choices for appetizers and main course as well as daily specials all prepared simply but with attention to flavourful detail. An impressive variety of wines as well. Being from Toronto with a considerable selection of Italian eateries available ,from pizza plus places to very fine dining,we have tended to be very particular when choosing Italian cuisine. Ivo's was so captivating and memorable we returned for dinner on the same trip and left with the same feeling of comfort and pleasure.
Last year , while in San Juan, we revisited and to our surprise, the server remembered us from before (she was one of Ivo's daughters) .Garlic mussels are to die for and any of the daily special pastas or carne are highly recommended. We have mentioned this establishment to friends travelling to Puerto Rico and can't wait to return.
The location in a courtyard is very quiet and peaceful..almost in another world..and all aspects - food, service, ambience deserve the highest rating.

“Please rank this unigue ristorante even higher”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2014

Lovely, simply outstanding dining in a unique and inviting surround. The restaurant lies between two upscale retail stores in Old San Juan. One part is inside a building; the other part is open-air, between two buildings, with a protective canopy overhead, well-spaced tables and plants. Serene. The food was special and excellent in every respect. One dish -- a black, squid-ink linguini with both calamari and shrimp -- was the kind that required exact cooking time for each key ingredient, and was absolutely perfect. The wait staff was small but miraculously efficient, and there ware no delays of any kind. Indeed, the young waitress was remarkable -- taking a complicated order from a table of four with no pencil or pad, and totally familiar with the ingredients and manner of preparing each dish -- thus making variations available. You will remember dining here fondly and for a very long time.

“Family owned”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2013

Amazing to find a decent Italian restaurant in PR. This one is family owned - the chef is the father of the two servers. They know the menu extensively, and the food is cooked to order. They actually had toasted ravioli - hard to find outside of St. Louis! Risotto was ok, but ask about the off-the-menu items. They make special dishes based on whatever they bought that day. Surprisingly good wine list too.
