Condado Lagoon Villas at Caribe Hilton
Ranked #26 of 47 Hotels in San Juan
Reviewed November 13, 2011

Stayed at the Caribe Hilton Condado Lagoon Villas and it was horrible. Upon arrival I was checked on by a Lemuel who was very rude and had an attitude problem. Once I got in the room I was even more upset. There was hardly any room to move at all and the balcony was tiny. The next day I requested a room move and Omar moved me to the garden wing which was much better and Omar was very friendly and helpful. Dolores was also very sweet. The bar was great, the pool and beach as well. Lemuel really ruin my experience with his attitude. Later I found out he was the " manager ". Really? Wow.he needs training. If you want to stay at the
Hilton choose the hotel side not the villas.

We stayed at the Caribe Villas for 5 nights. The "villa" is not really a villa like I think of a villa (a hut or row of rooms that open up to an outdoor deck or patio), it's just a regular hotel room. We reserved an "ocean view", but the ocean view consisted of a little bit of the lagoon and looking at a bunch of buildings... we couldn't hear waves crashing or see out into the infinity of the ocean. While the room did have a balcony, there were no chairs - so any idea of enjoying a morning cup of coffee outside on the balcony overlooking the ocean was immediately squashed. The room itself was nice. The bed comfort was average. My number one complaint was that our room (7535) was right next to the parking garage. There were car alarms going off at various times throughout the night until 3 or 4 am. I'm assuming it was people looking for their car by setting off the alarm because the alarms did turn off after a minute or two, but it still didn't make for a restful nights sleep. Upon arrival the front desk staff was not pleasant but we found that the rest of the staff were very friendly for the remainder of our stay - especially the concierge, excursions and Hertz rental car staff. We ate at the pool bar and grill, not too overpriced but $4 for a can of coke when it's $1.50 in the vending machine. We had the daily breakfast buffet included in our stay which was good because it was free ($22 per person weekdays, $24 weekends - I felt it was overpriced for what you got). We also ate at the Italian restaurant which was very good ($20-$30 avg entree). We took a walk over the bridge to the Conrad casino for a little change in atmosphere and had dinner at their steakhouse (we have a Morton's in Philly, so we skipped the Morton's at the hotel) which was very good - try the Mofungo. The beach/pool and outdoor grounds were very nice and is the best part about the hotel. The outdoor grounds included a little area of hammocks which I thought was a cute idea. All in all - for the price I think you can definitely find better and I wouldn't recommend this place (maybe I'm jaded because I expected to get a good night's sleep while on a relaxing vacation but didn't because of the car alarms), but if you do book, I'd recommend trying the garden view rooms since the ocean views were lackluster and the garden area with peacocks and swans was really nice and calming.

I am sorry you were disappointed with our rooms; we do have several room types within our Villas, from regular rooms to a 2 bedroom Villa suite. We do hope you come back and gives another chance to impress you.

I traveled to San Juan for a Convention and took my family. We were pleasantly surprised by the Villas. Our room was 7115 and was cool and clean, on the main floor with a walk out patio. We had a view of the inlet. Directly adjacent to the Caribe Hilton, we had all the benefits of being in the main hotel with the luxury feel of a Condo. The room had a refrigerator, wet bar, cabinets and microwave.

We did not have any issues with the staff, they were all very gracious.

The only flaw was that we noticed that the cold water in the bathroom sink did not work properly. We did not report it to the desk, however and it was not really a problem.

There is a Starbucks, Morton's Steakhouse and three or four other hotel restaurants. The breakfast bar was about $47 for a family of three which we felt was expensive, but the food was very good.

They also have several bars on the Caribe property and they too are quite expensive, but all Hotel's usually are. One beer and a rum and coke cost $27.

This location is about a 30 minute walk to Old San Juan, and with the humid weather, it was a little uncomfortable to do during the day.

We felt very safe in this location and to the Old San Juan area. With the pools, and private beach area, there is really no need to leave the property. It is a great location for a family vacation or adult getaway or honeymoon. While this hotel and grounds were very well kept and clean, the area outside the hotel property is very trashy.

Room Tip: Ours was facing East.

Overall Impression: Fantastic hotel is you want luxury right in the heart of San Juan. Hotel is large, but we stayed in the Lagoon Villas, so it felt very quaint and secluded.

With my Hilton Honors Diamond status, we received certificates for continental breakfast each day. It was also good for use at the hotel Starbucks.

PROs:
-Relatively close proximity to Old San Juan
-Private beach
-Villas and ocean view
-Grounds/Gardens

CONs:
- Food is a little pricey
-Hotel size
-Crowded parking garage

The Caribe Hilton has an excellent location for exploring both Old San Juan and the Fortaleza as well as the Condado area. The hotel itself has everything you need to have a relaxing stay there. The pool includes an area for lap swim as well as just lounging around. We loved the grove where there were hammocks to rest in under the shade of the trees with the ocean breeze coming in. There is a lagoon area to swim if you have a desire for salt water. In the evening the view of the ocean is marvelous with places to watch fish come in and just generally enjoy the moon and the stars.

My family and I stayed at the Caribe Hilton Condado Lagoon Villas last week . Unfortunately we got to experience Hurricane Irene while we were there. The staff a the Caribe was wonderful and the facilities were the perfect place to ride out the storm - there are 4 restaurants on site so we had plenty of dining options without leaving the grounds, the morning breakfast was good and plentiful and before and after the hurricane, our family thoroughly enjoyed the huge pools and private beach. Perfectly located just minutes away from Condado and Old San Juan, daily pina colada tastings and beautiful property - we would definitely stay at the Caribe on our next trip to San Juan!
