This tour was one of the most interesting and enjoyable experiences during our trip to San Juan! Our guide, Hiram, kept a nonstop conversation during the 3 hours, expertly weaving info about the history, architectural details, culture, and regional dishes of San Juan. He also shared his opinions about current social and political affairs as a native Puerto Rican.
The restaurants reflected both old and new and the dishes were great examples of the local cuisine (mofongo, fried chicken with guava dipping sauce that was truly delish, piña coladas, and one of the best mojitos I've ever had!) We found in general that the food in Puerto Rico was a little more on the fried side than we usually eat (no leafy green veggies in sight ) but even the reasons for this were deftly explained by Hiram.
We had lunch on our own and tooled around in Old San Juan before the tour, and I wished we had timed it better to go afterwards instead! Several of the restaurants we visited, I would have happily returned to with more time. Shopping, too. They gave us a handy coupon book at the end.
Over all, a very enjoyable and well-executed tour!
