This is a really nice hotel - this is not a beach resort. Hopefully that is clear to everyone before they book it. That being said, I spent every day at the beach because the Doubletree has pool and beach privileges with two sister hotels. Ask the front desk and they will give you a letter to present to the sister hotel.

For the hotel's beach privileges, I walked to the Renaissance La Concha (roughly 20 minute walk) on Avenida Ashford in the Condado district. I was a little concerned about the treatment I would receive at La Concha since I wasn't staying there, but, to a person, the staff at La Concha could not have been nicer. Staying at the Doubletree is a great way to enjoy the San Juan beaches while staying away from the water in a different San Juan neighborhood.

A quick taxi ride from the airport (less than $20), the Doubletree is convenient to several "neighborhood joints" for food and drink, Bebo's for example, and also a 24-hour grocery store (SuperMax) right across the street.

I had a Queen room and although the room is small, it is just fine for one person. It may be tight for two people. Plus, the bathroom is right next to the bed and has a frosted glass door, again, maybe not the best for two people. The room has plenty of work space, wired and wireless internet access, great lighting, and several convenient electrical outlets. Coffee, tea and two bottles of water are replenished daily. The room has a safe (that will hold most laptops, but probably not the large ones), a microwave oven and a refrigerator. The only negative thing I can think of is that you can clearly hear room doors and locks slamming shut whenever someone goes in or out of neighboring rooms. Other than that, no complaints.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Hola RDShell,
Thank you for your kind review. As you mention, although we are not on the beach, we are only a few minutes walk from beautiful Ocean Park beach. Also, our guests can take advantage of our Beach Club, which gives access to our two beach front sister properties. I hope we will be able to welcome you back in the near future. Please feel free to contact me directly at bo.bramsen@hilton.com if I can be of further assistance.

Very friendly and hospitable staff..warm cookies at check in was a big plus! Had a rental car and parking staff was very helpful and accommodating. Across the street is a big Supermax where you can purchase water, etc. The only drawback was that the room was small and the layout of the bathroom is strange with a frosted glass door and very limited shelf space over the sink. Great location!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel post cruise. We were off the ship and in our room by 10:25am-really early check-in. Staff was friendly, courteous and helpful from the bell captain to the housekeeping staff. What we asked for we received. We stayed late to enjoy the pool and had access to a shower and towels pre-flight home. The facility was clean and well maintained. Our room was clean and not worn-really liked the gigantic (post ship) glass shower! We ate breakfast in the hotel dining room and while it was the usual SanJuan prices, the quantity of food was very good and plentiful portions. The hot milk served with morning coffee was a nice touch. Oh, yes, cookies were very tasty. The view from our room was pretty much roof tops, but we weren't there to look out that window. The location was not really an issue as it was really only about 4 or 5 blocks from the resturant area. There were bars and resturants close by. The 24 hour grocery store right across the street has a hot/cold food deli and all kinds of beverages.

Hola Suedrs,
Thank you for staying with us. I was happy to read that we were able to provide you with early check-in. On occassions when early check-in is unavailable, we do store the luggage for our guests while they can use our facilities or those of our beach front sister properties. Please feel free to contact me directly if I can be of assistance with any future reservations.

Stayed there for 5 nights. Arrived at 2:30AM, got all needed info (where to park rental car etc.) in 3 minutes and were all set. 30 seconds from the entrance - and you are in SuperMax, store opened 24-hour; may find there everything you need (any food, any drinks rum/brandy/beer etc.) Hotel staff is VERY friendly, any questions answered immediately. Walking distance to Ashford avenue - and you are in the center of night life, area is very nice and safe (police is everywhere). Highly recommended (of course if $200/night with AAA discount is affordable)

I have been a loyal guest at this hotel since it opened. The last several visits have been challenging. As a frequent business traveler to PR, I can see that the hotel has gone done hill fast. Rooms are showing wear and are no longer clean. Location is great, but the staff behind the desk including managers are not the same great staff as before. It seems it has become the layover stop for the cruise line crowd. The prices were good but.......resort tax now, $34.02 What! this little hotel is far from being a resort! I challenged the mgr and he said it was for the Wi-if and.......... He tried to figure out what else he could make up! Sorry as a Diamond member I don't need the BS!

Room Tip: Stay some where else.

Saludos RobertB,

If possible please contact me at yodil.caban@hilton.com as I would like to offset your feelings towards our hotel. We truly value our repeat guests and are willing to fix/change any which situation that might inconvenience our loyal guests. At the same time I would like to know the specific room number that you stayed in last time, so that we can fix what needs to be fixed.

In regards to the resort tax that you have mentioned, all hotels in San Juan basically charge a hotel charge/resort fee. Unlike many destinations were hotels nickel and dime their guests by charging them for every little thing, like bottled water, internet, computer usage, movies, copies, fitness club usage, special amenities and many other services, hotels in San Juan basically charge a hotel charge/resort fee and include these items. In our case we have added services like beach coolers, so our guest can enjoy the day at the beach. We also provide the ice and our guest can take their in room bottled water or stock up at the gift shop or the supermarket across the street. Since we are not a beach front hotel, we have established a great relationship with La Concha Beach Resort and the CY-Isla Verde Beach Resort where our guests enjoy full access to their beach and pool facilities. If our guest would like to stay in during the day or night, we provide a healthy stock of blue ray/DVD movies. We will even provide pop-corn to be prepared at the in room microwave. We believe that these amenities enhance our guest experience without having to pull out the credit card for every additional request and service.

I am with hopes that you will contact me directly (yodil.caban@hilton.com ) and we can win your loyalty once again.

Always at your service,
Yodil Caban
General Manager

The hotel is great. The location is perfect. The room was excellent. However, the staff attitude sucks. They do not like their jobs. One of the guys - Juan - was rude. The wait for help at the lobby/reception was too long. It is not good value for money.

It's a comfortable hotel in Condado Area, great staff, and the room was so quiet and comfortable. Breakfast is very complete. Doubletree has a agreement with the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Isla Verde, so you can take all the facilities of the Marriott, like the beach service, restaurants on beach, sauna, lockers and casino. The perfect combination between both hotels!!!
There's a touristic zone were the taxi rate is about 12, 15 or 18 USD, for the hotel to the OLd San Juan.
