“Great location. Great value.”
Reviewed April 23, 2014 via mobile

Quality hotel with all the modern conveniences and old world charm located directly across the streets from the cruise ship piers just blocks from Old San Juan attractions. The rooms are okay and serve their purpose. The staff is awesome. The tour desk down stairs should be your first stop for quality inexpensive tours around Puerto Rico. The pool and hot tub on the roof looks nice but while we were there it was always to fill to accommodate us. (there was a student tour group in the hotel during our stay.) Otherwise great value, great stay.

Just returned after a friend inexplicably picked Puerto Rico for a destination wedding. After travelling from the West Coast I felt like I had flown to Europe, showed up at 10 AM and the hotel said I could either have a room without view now, or wait for one with a view. I took the room without view, so I take responsibility for the room I got, which had a single window looking out to a parking structure. I was happy that I got to my room immediately after such a draining flight.

The Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel & Casino is good if you want something dependable with an excellent location for Old San Juan. It is not a beach hotel, and I didn't even make it to the beach (mostly because I was "drained" after wedding related events/drinking.) I did check out the pool, which is on the roof, but not really a destination type pool.

The staff was pleasant and non intrusive- I spent some daylight hours in the room and wasn't pestered by house keeping, which has been a fairly common experience for me in different locations.

If you want an upgrade- check out El Convento- several friends stayed there and it was really nice. If you want the Puerto Rican beach experience, this is not your place, but if you want something clean and dependable in Old San Juan go for it, just don't expect magic.

Room Tip: The rooms without a view really, really, do not have a view- so be forewarned.

We stayed here overnite after a cruise. Old pleasant hotel with very helpful staff. Elevator requires a room key to function - other patrons chuckled as they showed us the trick to get the room key to work. We did the same to others after we had figured it out! Big room. Small pool on top floor with great views of port, and pleasant breezes. Wonderful location on the waterfront - pleasant walk along water to the old city walls/fort, as well as outdoor cafes and restaurants.

Dear guest, thanks for sharing your experience with us here. Glad you enjoyed your stay and that you not only passed the elevator key test but shared the trick with other guests as well. All kidding aside, we will soon replace the card reader systems and upgrade all elevators.

Spent two nights here before a cruise. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which included fruit, cereals/breads, and standard hot food items. We also at at the restaurant for dinner one evening and enjoyed it. The room itself was a standard room; nothing special. I found that the walls were a bit thin as I got woken up by the guy in the next room over clearing his throat. The staff was outstanding; very helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to help wherever they could. Location was close to the Catano ferry, both forts, shopping, and cruise terminal. The pool was busy during the day, but emptied out after dinner. We would stay at the Sheraton again.

Room Tip: Room 628 had a view of San Cristobal Fort and the water; it was great.

This Sheraton property is located just across the street from the water and the piers where the cruise ships dock. A short walk will take you to all of the sites in Old San Juan, and there is a good selection of restaurants nearby. With a casino on the ground floor and a Sr. Frog's next door, you don't have to go far to find some entertainment for the evening.

We stayed in a 2 room suite on the fourth floor, with a stand up balcony facing the water. The room was adequate, and the finishes and bedding are what you would expect from a Sheraton. The breakfast was only ok -- if it is included in your room-rate then go for it, but otherwise, my recommendation would be to see if you can find a place to get a local breakfast elsewhere. The service was also consistent with what I have come to expect from a Sheraton -- a little lax, but this of course is not a five star property.

Overall, a bit on the pricey side, but the location makes it worth it. I'd recommend staying here if you want to stay in Old San Juan with decent accommodations.

We just spent a week at the Sheraton in old San Juan. We had a junior suite facing the port. This is an older hotel - one of the biggest hotels in old San Juan. The room was wonderful. It had two rooms, the sitting/living room had a small balcony - for standing only - that looked out on the bay and cruise port. It was noisy because of the street and tourist traffic but very pleasant. We had the doors to the balcony open every day! The bedroom area was distanced from the street so it was very quiet.
Some of the furniture was showing its age but everything worked fine for us. Service was excellent! The maids, waiters, etc all excellent. If you want to stay in the old part of San Juan and experience some of the historic sights this would be a good place to stay. Just bear in mind, this is Peurto Rico, not the US. The pace is their own and perhaps not what we are used to at home. The atea is heavily touristed and very busy! Everything is pricey, at the hotel and everywhere else. But we had a great time and would go back!

Similar to a "La Quinta" or Holiday Inn, but Everything I checked in San Juan/Old San Juan, was going for $250 to $300 a night.. (?) unless you want to spend MORE at the Hilton.. or stay in a "Hostel" (bunk-beds w/ common bath & kitchen for $50 :) So AFTER 2 nights in the Hostel.. I promised my wife I'd get her a Nice room, where she could take a shower.. in a private bathroom :) That made the room worth $250 + $50 in taxes & fees. There were "Deals" for less, but the taxi ride could cost you $50 each way (surprise !), for your "Cheap" room deal. The Casino here was "Fine".. I lost.. She won.. We were both entertained.. :) Room was "Average" for the U.S. (see pics)
