I stayed at the Wyndham Condado from April 16-23 (Spring Break) with 37 of my high school students. The actual resort is nice - pools, grounds, jacuzzis, rooms, lobby, etc. The beach area is TINY, but still nice. My kids snorkeled and saw brightly colored fish, squid and even barracuda. Food at the pool restaurant was good and fairly priced! ($11 for cheeseburger plate)
The rooms were spacious, but gently worn. This hotel is nothing like the Wyndham El Conquistador in Fajardo, but it still is nice! The oceanfront rooms are MUCH NICER than the other ones! Ask for an oceanfront room at the end of the hall. I had 344 and it was lovely!
We ate dinner at Max's Grill one evening and the food was delicious. The presentation was beautiful and the salmon and scallops were to die for!
($25) Another evening we ate next door at Ropa Vieja ($18). It was very good, too.
My three disappointments were that EVERY DAY, several of our room keys didn't work, one day my door wouldn't lock when I closed it and also
the front desk checked another couple into my daughter's room at 1 AM when she was in bed. Imagine someone walking into your room like that!
The hotel is on Ashford Avenue, which is very safe. We did day tours and this hotel's location was excellent !
Don't believe all the garbage you read from the poor reviews. It isn't a five star hotel, but the price you pay isn't for a five star!

We stayed at the Condado at the end of April and it was perfect for what we needed. We had a room overlooking the ocean, which was very nice. (the first night our room overlooked the street and it was incredibly noisy) We didn't spend much time at the hotel itself, btu when we were there it was a pleasant experience. The bus was ideally located outside the hotel so we traveled to Old San Juan. We also spent one evening in the Isla Verde section (eat at Metropol - food is great and cheap). The hotel booked a tour to the rainforest for us and we stopped at Luquillo Beach after. Both were very ncie. We only spent one day by the pool and on the beach. The pool area is very nice with chairs near the water and although the beach is incredibly small and near the road, it seemed that only hotel guests were using it and the water was very calm and clear. Because of all the rocks near the beach, I was able to see lots of fish without snorkling gear (although you can rent it from the hotel for $6, it is very rocky) Ajili Mojili was good but even less expensive and better was Rioja Vehia (sp?) closer to the Condado and on the same side of the street. The food at the hotel is a little pricey and not worth it except for lunch by the pool. But the fruity rum drinks by the pool are great. Overall the hotel was in a perfect location and was exactly what we needed for the price that we paid.

We stayed at the the Wyndham for a 1 night after an 11 day cruise and really liked the place. The rooms were very clean and nice, great location, and they had a very nice large casino! There are also several restaurant choices in the hotel and there is a couple more dining choices down the street. We ate at Chili's and it was one of the best Chili's I have ever ate at. Our waiter Saul was the best waiter we have ever had in PR.

I would recommend this hotel, especially to people coming and going on cruises!

My husband and I just got back from beautiful Puerto Rico where we had a great time staying at the Wyndham Condado for our anniversary. We stayed the week of April 18-22. I was a little worried about what I might encounter there from the previous reviews, but was very happy to discover that this place was very nice and clean. Check-in took only 5 minutes. We paid for a "City View" and were given one of the best rooms on the 9th floor in the Lagoon Towers. We had a corner room (#981) with a fantastic view of the pool, lagoon and ocean! We also had a wrap-around balcony which we enjoyed having our cocktails on. Everyone working there was very personable and attentive to our needs. One afternoon it rained almost the whole day so we rented a movie in our room which we couldn't get to work. Within minutes of calling the front desk, they sent someone up to fix it. Very impressed by the response time. The prices for drinks were a bit pricey so we found a liquor store just down the block and bought our own wine and beer and kept it in the room's refrigerator. We also ate at Hacienda Don Jose which is right on the ocean (right down the block from the hotel). Breakfast is only $5.75 for coffee, juice, eggs, bacon or pancakes. The bus (line B21) into Old San Juan stops right in front of the hotel and cost only .25 cents. Old San Juan is beautiful and a must see. They have live entertainment in the Casino Lounge which we enjoyed before going out to dinner every night. We hope you enjoy your stay in Puerto Rico as much as we did.

My sister and I just returned from a 3 night stay at the Wyndham Condado Plaza. We found everything there to our liking. At first glance from the cab ride from the airport, we were disappointed in the view of the lagoon and wished we were staying on a resort on the ocean. However, we discovered the beautiful grassy knoll on the hotel grounds above the ocean crashing on the rocks. Plenty of comfortable chaises, chairs, tables and hammocks. Beautiful ocean breezes. We ate lunch at the pool bar every day and found the prices and service wonderful. We discovered 2 great places for breakfast and dinner within a very short walk from the hotel. We had full eggs/bacon breakfasts at the Nueva Hacienda by the open windows overlooking the ocean crashing on the rocks. Breakfasts were around $5 and wonderful, especially the coffee with steamed milk. The Waikiki next door was even more scenic as we sat outside on the terrace and again watched the ocean crashing on the rocks beneath us. Meals were under $20 for dinner. One night we went to a highly recommened restaurant, called Ajili Mojily (slightly more high end) on the lagoon side. We didn't have a table with a view, but had an enjoyable meal with a very friendly staff, and the highest price meal was around $26. The casino at the Condado Plaza was good size for Puerto Rico and we had fun there too. Even though we had a City View (cheapest) room, we had a slight view from the balcony of the lagoon and the kayak races across the street. FYI, I booked our rooms through Expedia, so the Wyndham would not accept our membership for the welcome baskets or room upgrades. They only honor membership if you book directly through the Wyndham reservation desk. I never did get to try the brownie sundae highly recommended on this site, but it was under $5 even though the ice cream parlor was in the hotel. I found the prices of meals in San Juan and even in the hotel to be quite reasonable (in comparison to Ft. Lauderdale, FL). We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and stay in Puerto Rico and will plan to go back there again.

Just returned from 8 days in the British Virgin Islands and decided to explore Puerto Rico on the way back. We stayed 3 nights at the Wyndham Condado, April 1, 2 and 3, 2005. We'd heard some awful reviews, but our friends had booked the hotel for 1 night and we just decided to extend the stay and remain at the Wyndham Condado. We loved it and Puerto Rico both!......We registered with Wyndham by Request as suggested in advance. Check in took 5 minutes maximum. We had a room over looking the bay across the street. The room was clean and spacious. Nice view of the bay with a small patio. Room had a coffe maker and tea always kept stocked each day. Wyndham by Request left beer, fruit and cheese and water in our room on day 2. My boyfriend is a picky eater....so when he finds a restaurant he likes, it's hard to get him anywhere else....as a result we ate dinner each night in the Italian Restaurant located in the hotel. Food was great (we always had one of the specials, Mahi-mahi or medallions of beef with pasta on the side) and a glass of wine, all very good. Dinner ran about $75 per night for both of us. Breakfast at the hotel is expensive. About $30 for your basic eggs, bacon, toast breakfast. There is an extensive buffet for about $18 per person. The casino is small (of course we go to Las Vegas quite a bit, so there's no comparison), too many nickel slots. Our friend sat at one of the black-jack tables and complained about it taking 45 minutes to get a drink. ....My complaint: Most machines require a hand-pay for any jackpots over $50.00 - $100.00 and on 3 occassions I sat for more than 45 minutes each time waiting to get paid.
Things to do: We took a cab to see the forts and explore Old San Juan on foot the first day. Our cab driver took us to Fort (Cristobal?) and we began exploring this fort first, great veiws Old San Juan and the wall extending all the way to the 2nd fort (El Morro?). Beautiful walk along the coast connects the 2 forts with vendors selling things on the stroll from one to the next. So many kids flying kites when you arrive at El Morro - a beautiful sight!.....Then, we had "Frommers Puerto Rico" and it contains a map and walking tour of Old San Juan that really helps you to know what the buildings are that you're seeing, (highly recommended). One thing it doesn't mention that you must do, (told to us by our cab driver), when you stop at the Old Church, proceed directly across the street and walk down to the bottom of the hill to see the only remaining gate to the city built by the Spanish. (there were originally 6 gates). Another beautiful spot. 2nd day booked a tour right from the hotel, the Rio Muy Caves and Arecibo Observatory. Caves were amzing. Took about 1 1/2 hours from the hotel by van. You travel in a tram down to the cave entrance (it's massive!) and you go on a walking tour with a guide for a bit over an hour). Not much to see at Arecibo, but it is an amazing sight if you remember the movie "Contact" with Jodie Foster - it's there! - There's a room with lots of scientific interactive things to do, but we enjoyed it. Back to the hotel and we enjoyed the salsa music and watched the great dancers right in the hotel that night!....
So, people were so friendly everywhere we went, we loved it...enjoy

We just came back from SJU Tuesday. We were there for 4 days. Check in was smooth. Took about 10 mins. They could not find the reservation

Room was across the hotel ( Lagoon Towers). Nice Room with a balcony. Definetely take higher floors. Traffic noise can be disturbing. Even on 8th floor, we did get some noise

Resturants are expensive and not worth it. Walk one block to Oceanfront for Breakfast. Nice location, Ocean View

Lunch is also good. Many walk to Subway next door.

Take .25 Cent ride to Old San Juan, avoid Taxi 10 $. Only problem is that Bus runs till 9 PM. Do the Old Walking trip and El Morro Trip.

Did the Rainforest Tour ( 40 $/pp).

Small Beach, Not worth it. Take a cab to Isle Verde,

Housekeeping was good. Called for some items, Were delivered in 10 mins. called back to confirm it.
