“Great hotel, Crappy Beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

The hotel is lovely and the location is definitely a plus since it's close to a lot of restaurants within walking distance. The food and drinks are a bit pricey (2 Mojitos = $21!) but we ended up walking around a lot and eating/drinking outside the hotel on most occasions.

The only BAD part about this hotel is the beach - it is NOT private, even though the hotel listings say they have a private beach. Anyone can walk in even if they are not hotel guests and the beach is very rocky/pebbly, so it actually hurts to walk in/out of the water so it's just a hassle not worth hassling with. Also, the chairs and towels are free but you have to pay an extra $15 for an umbrella. Personally, I think that should actually be free for hotel guests at least. If you walk down Ashford Ave., there's a great beach behind LaConcha Hotel and some of the restaurants. Just go there if you need to. Pointless to go to the beach at Conrad unless you just want to lay out in the sun!

Important Note: The hotel charges $16 per day for parking, but a few steps down, there's an open lot that charges $8. Save yourself some $$ with parking. Also, the hotel charges a 16% resort fee + tax each day.

Also, Front Desk was helpful in getting us a room right away even though we got to the hotel at 6am and check in time isn't until 3 or 4pm and didn't charge us extra.

The Conrad Condado is in the heart of Condado. There are fabulous shops & restaurants within walking distance to the hotel. The pool area is phenomenal with plenty of beach chairs, music, wait staff- which allows you to always have a drink in hand, large pool with swim up bar, a salt water pool, water slide, hot tub, hammocks between palm tree AND a small beach on a cove. The bars in the Conrad make great drinks – try a mojito or a pina poolside. Café Carribe is an AMAZING breakfast spot. Having lobster Benedict for breakfast with crunchy golden homefries is half the reason I chose to stay at the Conrad a second time! The concierge and valets are extremely helpful when booking excursions and travel. One plus about this hotel is there is an Enterprise rent a car attached to the building for any excursions you’d like to drive to. The rooms are a step above average – clean, modern, and all have nice balconies even if you chose a city-side view (cheaper) vs. ocean view ($100-$200+ a night more. We did many excursions and still saved more $$ than if we booked and all inclusive hotel in Jamaica!

Room Tip: Save money with a city-side room - view is still great! Ocean-side rooms are beutiful, but you will...

Excellent family stay. Beautiful grounds and facilities. Very very friendly staff and service. Stayed for a week. Plenty to do on the property. Very nice pools and beach. Kid friendly staff. Literally 5 minute cab ride to Old San Juan.

Room Tip: Beach front tower rooms are optimal. Suites are very big on the lagoon side.

We stayed at the Conrad for two days in late March. Some of the reviews are pretty harsh but overall, it's a good hotel. The service near the pool was good and our food was pretty tasty. The beach is small but adequate. We had an issue with my credit card and the front desk staff were very helpful and friendly during this matter. We did feel that the food was overpriced for what it was...and due to the location, there isn't much around to eat. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Conrad.

Puerto Rico is a beautiful Island and has amazing waters but you don't want to be in the ocean in January the currents are terrible. The Conrad offers a beach that is in a small inlet where you don't feel the currents and didn't have to fear swimming. The pools were also pretty nice but FREEEZING. I expected more service wise due to this being a Conrad property and was a bit let down. Overall a nice stay, good location but I may try out La Concha next time.

Issues:
Housekeepers randomly entering the room to get the water bottle they forgot in the fridge while cleaning.
When you rent towels at the pool you better make sure to return them before the pool cabana closes otherwise they will hit you with a service charge.
Food was not spectacular and breakfast was ehhhhhh.

In discovering that rooms only have showers, we asked for a room with a tub - they have a few with jacuzzi's. Three days later they have a room, but neglected to tell us it is $60 more......when I had been clear no additional charge. This may have been a 4 star hotel when it opened, but it squeaks by as a 3 star now. Service and attitude leave much to be desired. We asked for an umbrella but they had given their two away...
